Hi All,
I am planning on installing the standard Hyundai Elantra Fog/Driving lights. I was text chatting with a company shop.korea-motors and it was stated that the wiring is all ready there. He seemed very knowledgeable about my GLS.
This is the web site that I was chatting with.
MOBIS FOG LAMP ASS'Y DELUXE UPGRADE PACKAGE FOR HYUNDAI AVANTE MD 2010-13 MNR
He said that there was an additional plug in front of the radiator that is used for Fog Lights. Please see the pic's
(I have purchased a used column switch today.)
Does anyone know this to be true????
Do I need to install a relay so the switch does not carry the current from the lights? (My guess is yes.)

Thanks for reading and I hope responding,
Chris
P.S. I'm kind of afraid this is an air bag sensor.

Yes you need a relay. I would suggest you actually look over the area to see if you have any wiring.

The fog lights are controlled by grounding the relay. Personally if you don't have them now I would wire them in on an independent switch rather than go factory logic. This way they will be on when you want them on, just now with the low beams only.

I'm not sure what that wire is in your picture or if it's related to the fog lights or not, and if it is then what it even is to begin with.

Here's my fog light wiring.. I don't know if a car that did not have fog lights from the factory would be wired up with the pigtails needed for the bulbs.

I agree with Red Raspberry that since you're adding on fog lights that weren't there already from the factory it's just easier to install them as independent lights and not factory style with the column switch. Unless of course all the wiring is there and you only need to install the new switch, then it might be worth the effort.

A couple ways of installing them to consider... all using relays, of course.

1) Always on, no independent way of turning them on or off ... but depending where you get your car inspected you may have a problem with this as they won't turn off with the high beams.
2) Use a toggle switch inside the car to turn them on and off.
3) Automatic on with the headlights, simultaneously having automatic off with high beams, by using the low beam headlight wire to trigger the relay.

#3 sort of simulates the column switch also, so that's nice.

I have a 2012 GLS and every time I drive over the little mountain pass I drive everyday and it is fogged in I swear I'm going to add fogs. I would go with the switch and new wiring because I only want to use the extra energy when I need the lights for practical purposes. Is there consensus on a kit to purchase besides the original equipment? One of these days.

I'd toast to that! Made little difference on my other two E's. I went so far as to put a larger wattage bulb with a (faint) yellowish hue. Drove thru the Great Smokey Mountains. About 2:00 am. Meh...pretty much, it was business as usual. No big help except for the first 3-6 feet.
