2016 Hyundai Elantra floorboard tapping...

Hi, I bought a brand new '16 Elantra a little over a month ago and I love it but I've been noticing a tapping feeling under the floorboard and can't seem to figure it out... Not much of a sound is present but when my feet are on the pedals and on the little left foot rest piece, I can feel a sort of "tapping" in my feet... It only comes when the wheels are turning, nothing during idle... It's brand new so I don't see anything being terribly wrong but it's annoying and wanna see if anyone has an idea of what it could be? I've taken it by the dealership and they can't seem to find anything... They checked the suspension and drivetrain but said it was all fine... Also, it happens more on a rougher kind of road, but not so much on a new, smooth paved road... Any ideas would be appreciated!

Floor mat touching steering column. if floor mat too far forward you will really notice it backing up out of driveway and turning wheel. remove floor mat you will see what I mean. Happens in my Elantra and in my sisters focus.

Omigosh, has anyone seen the cat? :)

You might start by going for a quick blast down the highway, to get rid of any rocks stuck in the tire treads. If that doesn't work follow up with a manual inspection.

Also make sure you're tires are inflated to around 32 psi. Elantras are often delivered with overinflated tires, which translates every road imperfection directly to the driver's soul.

Beyond that it could be one of a million things, from a loose plastic shield to a defective CV joint. Let us know what turns up.

My 2011 was delivered "to me" with 45-46 psi. I'm glad I checked them the next day. Did someone say, "PDI-Fail?"

I had them inflated to around 40 PSI so I put then down to 32-34 and it still does it... Going to jack it up and make sure everything is tight on the brakes and all pebbles are out of the tires... Thats the only thing left....

Okay... Here's my resolution because I simply cannot figure it out... The dealership and I both have checked the axles, brakes and suspension.... Checks out good. I personally went and got every single pebble out of the tires, tightened every screw and bolt on the covers and shields and corrected the tire pressure... I had every single tire off the ground and had them all spinning, couldn't replicate it so it must just be the way the car grabs the ground and I'm over sensitive to every little thing... It doesn't do it unless it's actually on the ground itself and doesn't do it much on a smooth road, like freshly laid asphalt... Almost has the feeling of continuously driving over pebbles. Lol. Also, doesn't get worse with speed or anything so it's gotta just be the car sensitivity to the road imperfections.... Only thought that makes sense.

I haven't even gotten its' first oil change yet... I was thinking to try that but they're all brand new and didn't think rotating them would do anything. The tapping isn't really random, it's constant. But doesn't slow down or speed up with my speed. Just the same no matter what. The only thing I can think of is a defective tire but I don't see the odds in that being it...

I think you've stumped a lot of us on this one.

The splash shields at the front, if loose, can make noise and may vibrate when moving. I had a noise at highway speeds related to a loose shield at the front passenger side. More of a hum due to the resonance of the shield.

I do notice more feeling in the pedals of the Elantra than my Acura.

I may be way off but, this reminds me of a similar issue I had with my '01 Elantra.

Ended up I had a small piece of gravel stuck between the cross-member and floor pannel that was pushing the pannel in whenever i hit a bump.

I don't know if the frame is similar on the MD but if anything else fails, might be worth checking.

I would maybe try to have a mechanic lift the whole car, then push on the cross-member and see if there's a tap occuring near where you feel it. And if there actually is, maybe have a look at where mobile parts are joined searching for an "intruder".

Okay.... I think I've located the sound/feeling or whatever. (Maybe).... The dealership is closed until Monday so they aren't helpful right now... I took a video from under the car while the tires were spinning in both neutral and drive. Well, there's a slight scraping sound that may or may not be normal, but I think I heard it while driving earlier so I'm pointing that out. Also, the sound of a sort of fluttering popping noise is in the background... Not the clunking, that's from the axles when the tires stop but the scrape and fast popping is what I'm concerned about... I'm posting a link to the video so someone on here can hopefully shed their opinion on it... https://youtu.be/OZRKNX3oAHQ

Thanks...
