Anyway, with this threads first example, here we go.
Today I was sitting in the house enjoying my day off after a rather warm week. I heard some rumblings going on outside. At first I thought it was the neighbor working on another project but then my windows rattled. It then dawned on me that I had left my sunroof open when I started to hear the rain on the deck outside the window I was sitting at.
It wasn't slid back but I did have it angle opened in the rear. So I went out and closed it. The rain channels doing what they were designed to do properly and not a drop of H2O in the car. There was plenty on me however...
I've done that multiple times in multiple cars (People have even told me my sunroof was "Popped" open when it was raining outside) and never had a worry.
Emma and I had a lucrative Uber day today. I got a ride from a hotel downtown all the way to wine country about 25 miles away, an area I don't visit often enough so it was nice to be able to get down there and get paid doing it. I had a few close calls tonight so I figured that was the world's way of telling me to go home. I've got about ten dash cam clips stashed up but want to get another ten before I put up a YouTube compilation.
Took my 3 ½ week old (to me) 2013 Elantra down to Richmond International Raceway to make good on a Christmas gift from the GF. Participated in the NASCAR Experience and drove a cup car around the track for 8 minutes. Hit a few wineries on the way home too!
Regarding the Elantra I have to admit I am very pleased with my purchase. (2013 Desert Bronze 3,752 original miles) It was a bit of a spur of the moment / frustrated at my 16mpg Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited purchase. I love the looks, comfort and fuel economy (62 mile one way commute)!
Ugh, I think I pulled too hard on my handbrake and now it's very loose. So loose that if I hit a big enough bump, the handbrake will jump to the first click...zzz.
Jack the back of your car up with the ebrake on. If one rear can be turned by hand and the other doesn't you have one cable detached from the t-junction where they both join the ebrake cable. Or the nut for adjustment came off
Just got back from a trip from Abbotsford to Vernon for a few days and back again. Those who don't know the area, the Discovery Channel has a show called "Highway Thru HeII" (swap the 'I's with 'L's) following tow truck drivers operating on the Coquihalla Highway during the winter months. It's a twisty mountain highway with a 120kph (75mph) speed limit.
I took the Coquihalla up to Merrit and then Highway 97C across to Kelowna, and finally Highway 97 up to Vernon. It's a nice drive that I did in under 5 hours including lunch (On the way up I stopped in Kelowna, and on the way back I stopped in Merrit). My Elantra handled the trip like a champ, though using the cruise control going up steep climbs saw my tach at 4500rpm at times. I found that it liked to hold onto fifth gear after finishing a climb so I'd see ~3,000rpm on flat stretches after a steep climb - my solution was a single tap on the 'minus speed' button for the cruise control that would shift the car into 6th then a tap on the 'plus speed' button would get to back to the cruising speed without it downshifting again. On some of the steeper downhill portions I'd turn off the cruise control to prevent it from using engine braking to keep to the set speed, then tap the brake if it got up above 130kph.
No complaints with the steering feel or suspension; used 'sport' steering setting and the suspension never did anything surprising. One point to mention; if you're going up to the BC interior fill up your tank somewhere between Abbotsford and Hope. On my trip gas was 117.9/L in Abbotsford 115.9/L in Chilliwack, 119.9/L in Hope, 129.9/L in Merrit, 133.9/L in Kelowna, and 135.9/L in Vernon. If my tank were empty it would take 50L (13.2 US gallons), so that means a fill-up in Chilliwack that costs $58cdn would cost $68 in Vernon. Also, between Hope and Merrit there's a ~150km stretch with no gas stations and between Merrit and Kelowna there's another ~100km stretch without any gas stations, so you have to plan accordingly.

There is a desolate stretch of Highway 78 in southeastern Oregon which is the least densely-populated part of the state. Once you leave the town of Burns (population 2,806 and the biggest place around), there is a sign that reads 'LAST FUEL FOR 178 MILES' and they mean it! The closest gas station south of there (no roads go any direction but once you get south of town) is at the Nevada state line and they're usually charging between $5 and $6 a gallon due to the remoteness of the location. I've driven that route twice and the last time I did was about seven years ago and I passed a grand total of ten cars going the other way in the three hours I was on the road. Never saw another car heading the direction I was going.
I just received a shipment of what will likely be the last four 32-oz. bottles of the VW/Audi washer concentrate I'll ever buy. The stuff just up and vanished from dealer availability and it was only when I tried to order it online that a VW dealer in another state informed me that it had been discontinued. It was only after a massive search that I found a VW/Audi tuner shop in Connecticut that still offers it. I've been using this concentrate for almost ten years and love the way it works and smells so I'm hoping VW does an about-face and changes their minds on discontinuing it. In the meantime, I have enough to last me a year or so....
Well I did the unthinkable (Anymore)... Got a flat tire:|. I took a couple pics on my phone but its nothing special. The red spare looks kinda cool at least
I actually saw a guy on the shoulder of the freeway changing a flat on a current-generation Jetta earlier this week. I was quite surprised. Modern tires are amazing.
Just got the dealer's 6 mos free for life oil/filter change, tire rotation and multipoint inspection done. Also got their recommended 4 wheel alignment as I have hit some bad pot holes and speed bumps over time. Passed on the fuel injection flush as I only run a bottle of Techron every 10K miles, will do it in about 1.5K miles when I'm at 20K.
