Started to paint my body kit, pics inside

Well I decided that I could paint my kit just as well as my buddy who has a shop and decided to give Automotivetouchup.com a shot and oh my God what an awesome choice! The pics below do not do the side skirt justice! Total cost for everything needed to paint the entire kit was $ 173.45 shipped!

I first scuffed the part with 320 grit sandpaper to take off the clear and scuff the basecoat. I then put down 3 layers of the primer not sanding between and allowing 10 minutes in between coats. After the third coat I wet sanded the primer with 600 grit sandpaper and then put down 4 coats of base WJ allowing 10 minutes in between coats and 30 after the fourth coat. I then put down 5 coats of the midcoat for the pearl effect allowing 15 minutes in between coats. Finally I put down 3 coats of clear and have yet to wet sand or buff. The finish is absolutely beautiful and rivals the factory finish of the car!!!

Pics are with the 3rd coat of clear dry but before wet sanding or buffing has been done .

That looks professional! You sure you did this artistry, Michelangelo? It's too shiney and the reflection is too deep. Go back and do it over, LOL.

Looks professional. That white "shine" in every photograph proves it's smooth.

Thank you! Yes it's from Automotivetouchup.com so it's actually professional grade paint but in aerosol. I wanted to see for myself how good this stuff was since I've heard nothing but good reviews. I'm going to wetsand tonight with 1500 grit, buff, and start on the other skirt. It's VERY time consuming but feels great when you get it done. I would HIGHLY recommend a good charcoal canister style respirator though with this stuff as it's nasty stuff.

gamer, this is great!

I actually just placed an order with them last week for white and black for my emblems. after cleaning my car this weekend I noticed a boat load of stone chips on my front bumper (plastic). Did you end up painting the bumper yet? If you do plan on it, how do you plan on going about smoothing the bumper?

I'm considering smoothing it out before I do my front face lift project, but need some guidance. I dont have much experience painting...

I only plan on painting the lip but not the entire bumper. I'll follow the exact same steps as outlined in post 1. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I would even be happy to give you my cell number for any help I can give.

ah, I see!
so I guess wet sanding works just as well on plastic as it does on metal?

Must do further research.

It may be ok though, since the stone chips are from below, you cant really see them unless your eye level with the bumper.
