Hello all, I thought it would be nice to have all the 2011 Elantra related problems in one place. It will make it easier for all current or future owners to know about all the problems in one place instead of searching all over the entire Forum.
No problems so far, although I do hear some cold-weather squeaking in the gas pedal where it safety-hinges to the floor (thank you, Toyota). I'll hit it with the silicone spray one of these days and hopefully that'll be the end of it.
PS: Consolidating all complaints in one thread is a great idea that will probably last about three minutes
Heh heh, funny guy. I meant that "problems" would not be contained to one thread. And just to be on the safe side, I started one myself.it's been more then 3 minutes
Okay but the way the tire is designed, theres a difference. One side the water will go out. On the other side, the water will stay in the tire. Theres no arrow for the direction, but theres a tire 'thread' ? The tire is full of littles 'WAVES' de signe on the side. on my conductor side, the waves are going foward when rolling. On the other side, the waves are inverted. That's why I mention that. I will take some pictures today. Will post them, you'll see what I mean.
Xion : I know it's soon a bit but I'm going to Quebec city this week end and I didn't want to make 650 kms and more on the wintertires on warm roads. And for the last snowfall, as we always have each year, I'm not affraid because the tires are '4 seasons'. They are made for light snow, slush and water. I know that i'll have to be more careful if driving into this conditions. 3 years ago I did install the lowprofiles 17s on my accent oneday. Went to a friend house to install the HIDs on it in is garage. 2 hours later, open the garage door ! what the *** !! It was 2 - 3 inchs on the ground haha.
Did Laval / Vaudreuil at a slower speed and no problem. If the tires are new, I trust them. The dealership of coiteux did transfer the car from repentigny, the only black gls was there. They did the transfer of 30 kms in a snowstorm and the guy told me that the tires was really good. I was just sad to know that it wasnt Hankook brand !
True, I think though with the hype of the 40mpg which is being plastered everywhere we all wish that 40mpg would be the norm. Maybe in a few years, although I mean I'd be happy getting near that. But at least if this is your best sales pitch (40 mpg) at least make it that we get that number most of the time. But I think we will once summer comes.
First time I reply to myself lol...it was just the sound of the sunglasses moving in the sunglasses compartment...stupid me.....I am so releived my car is fine.I drove 340 miles this weekend, i achieved an impressive 1.43g/62m (dunno if the conversion is good but 5.4L/100Km) on the highway. I was happy with the car till I came back home and noticed a weird annoying sound coming from behind the dashboard, I don't know how to describe the sound in english but it sounds like something is loosen, it felt like driving my friend's 1998 Honda Accord, his dashboard is making a lot of noise on bumpy roads......
My dealer did not write anything on my summer tires when they installed my winter tires, they just put the 16'' rims in the trunk. Reading about what you all say about the tires I should not worry about which one go on the right or left side? I can just put the tires on any side?Yeah, it's Contiprocontact.
Thanks for you info. I did cancel my appointment and will let the tires like that. Didn't notice any problems in the water so it must be okay this way. I just don't understand how the tires can be stable within working water by the same side..
But yeah after looking at the tires on the website, they no need to be rotated.
I easily backup in my garage and I have to backup between my roommate's car and a snowbank without any problem. All new cars tend to have a higher trunk, we must get used to it. Look at the Mazda3 and the Focus they all have high trunk that makes it harder to see behind......Greetings
I just leased a 2011 Elantra GLS with some options. I'm pleased overall, and it's certainly a good-looking car (especially when compared to my previous car - a 1998 Camry); however...
I'm having a really hard time seeing out the back windshield - huge blind spot on the bottom. I was even considering breaking the lease (after 2 days!) because I feel uneasy anytime I park. The dealer suggested adding a rearview camera for $400 or proposed shifting me to another car with more visibility (a Suzuki SX-4, no comparison!).
Am I the only one having trouble with the visibility?
Yeah I know what you mean I lived in Boynton Beach area for a short time and my car got several battle scars from those 95 year old drivers. I think you will get used to the difference in visibility after a little while.Someguy
Thanks for your response.
Previous car was a 1998 Camry sedan - the old style, boxy look. Compared to the Camry, the Elantra's back windshield looks cutoff, like the bottom half is missing. I also get some distortion and reflection in sunlight; since I live in Florida, that means almost every day.
I used to turn my head around to see in back of me with the Camry but that doesn't seem to help with the Elantra due to the headrests on the back seats.
It's very difficult driving here. You've got drivers here over 95 who back their cars out first, ask questions later.
This is my first car with a backup camera! Love it!Or...if you have the extra dough...just get the NAV system with backup camera. That will (mostly) solve the issues with limited visibility when backing up. Just remember, as is the case with the mirrors on the car, objects in the camera are closer than they appear!
You should be utilizing your rear-view mirror, side mirrors, and your neck and eyes whenever you back up. Between all of these, you shouldn't have any problem backing up. I don't have any issue whatsoever with visibility. The only thing I can really imagine is that you're sitting too low.Greetings

I went from a 1998 Camry to a 2003 Volvo S60 and now to a 2011 Hyundai. The Volvo and Hyundai have very similar rear windows, with similar issues. I had a tough time getting used to the Volvo, so I understand how you feel. Cars with smaller rear windows and interference from the back headrests do take more caution when backing. I have to say that I absolutely adore my back up camera because of this and it was one of the main reasons I held out buying my new car for months to get the premium package.Greetings

I had a loud engine ticking sound also. Hyundai replaced the whole engine. took 24 days to get new engine and install. No more noise .For me :
The engine is making weird and loud sounds.. I'm at 10 feet of the car and it sounds like a TDI. Will seriously have to take an appointment to make the tech verify the car and tell me a second time that everything is fine. The supposed normal injection sound is LOUD, more than my old 1.6L.
Tonight I switch for the summer tires. I was searching for the ---> rotation logo on the continental tires and didn't found it. So I took a look at the design of the tires and the littles WAVES design on the side. All the 4 tires are mounted on the alloys the same side ? So I have 2 tires okay and 2 that they will need to switch. On dry roads I don't care but on the water it wont be the same game. Don't want the car to respond badly. Did you all have the tires the good way ? Can someone post me a pic of the right way ? Because If someone tell me that it doesn't matter okay but normaly theres a side to install them ? They come on the car from the plant to the dealer. Was removed from the car to be replaced by a winter set mounted on steel rims. It's probably not the dealer fault but are they will accept to change them for me or saying that they are right mounted... hmmm !
For the rest, everything is fine by now. No carwash leak, no EPS problems.
My brother-in-law is a mechanic in the army with 20 years of experience. He tried my car, he liked it, he said the engine noise, on my car anyway, are normal, he says at idle we hear the injectors and there was no weird noise to him, it is a 4 cylinder. The ticking sound some people have when turning off their engine may be selenoids reseting to 0 he said.....I'm at 1000 kms to get my 1st 6000km service oil change.
I will ask them to look everything that I've wrote on a paper.
Engine noise.
Engine lag between 2000 ans 2300 rpm.
Suspension squeek squeek, getting on my nervs a lot.
Seriously, the tech at my dealership won't do anything. I went there 2 or 3 times to ask them to look at something and they allways said that this is normal.
they su*k a lot, sorry for the language. They don't give a BEEP about 25 years old customers. Hope that when something will break that they will change the part w/o any bulsh*tting.
Same here, I noticed a few paint chips after only 3000km (1864 miles) of driving, it is winter, lots of road debries but still that's not normal. How will be the paint after a few years?I am beginning to notice that rock chips are getting right thru the clear coat, paint and down to the metal...
Hopefully dealer can do touch up... but Hyundai may need to add a heavier clear coat to protect the paint!!!
