Hello all, I thought it would be nice to have all the 2011 Elantra related problems in one place. It will make it easier for all current or future owners to know about all the problems in one place instead of searching all over the entire Forum.

Gawk at it means that people is watching a lot ??

I just washed the car yesterday, 1st time a hand job. The other times was in automatic pressure water carwash and it wasn't removing all the dust on lit in the bottom of the doors.

I did 1h in traffic from home o my girlfriend apparment and there was a LOT of people watching the black beauty shiny little car !

They probably all say : HUH, a hyndai ?? Woah !!

But seriously... have fun keeping that black car shiny... it's a pain to keep clean

On two seperate occasions I have been unable to remove my ignition key. Both times the steering wheel was locked off centered, dont know if that had anything to do with it or not. In order to get the key out I had to move the steering wheel side to side while jiggling the key in the ignition. I plan on having it looked at when I take my car in for its 1st service. I always make sure the wheel is centered before I turn the car off now, just in case.

Don't worry about it. That's something most new cars do. It's apparently a security feature. The first time it happened to me, I thought there was something wrong ('09 Corolla). Just turn the steering wheel gently off the locked position... just a little and take the key out. It's just an immobilization feature so that if someone tries to steal your car without the key, they can't use the steering wheel.

Good advice. Also be sure to set the parking brake before shifting into Park if you're on a hill. Otherwise there will be additional load placed on the transmission and the steering wheel will be even more difficult to unlock.

This happened to me in one of my previous vehicles. It freaked me out and it took me like 5 minutes to get the key out! Now I am sure it is normal. It used to happen all the time on my 09 Accent as well.

Haha... yeah, it freaked me out the first time it happened to me. I had to call my dealership and one of their techs explained it to me and how to get it unstuck. After that, whenever it happened, fixing it was a "well... duh!" moment for me. :whistling:

I wont worry about it then. It just that this is the first time I have had this happen with any of my cars that I can remember. But you know how that goes, sometimes I cant remember lots of things.

I drove 340 miles this weekend, i achieved an impressive 1.43g/62m (dunno if the conversion is good but 5.4L/100Km) on the highway. I was happy with the car till I came back home and noticed a weird annoying sound coming from behind the dashboard, I don't know how to describe the sound in english but it sounds like something is loosen, it felt like driving my friend's 1998 Honda Accord, his dashboard is making a lot of noise on bumpy roads......

5.4L/100Km would be 43.56 MPG (U.S.). i think that would be in us gallons. if so, that is good to see.

thanks dude, the 5.4L is from the trip computer though, I don't know how accurate is the trip computer? I was also driving at the speed limit, I wanted to see if the rated 40mpg was true but you must drive at speed limit, 100Km/H in Quebec, it looks accurate since when I drive near 120 Km/H the trip computer show only 7.0L/100Km or more..........

The car is capable of getting great fuel economy if driven within reason. Hilly terrain, excessive temperatures, stop-and-go-traffic, a heavy foot, even differences in weight (Limited w/Navi weights about 200lbs more then a base L plus passengers) all contribute to lower mpg numbers. Im averaging about 7.5L/100 km mostly city. On a few long highway trips, its been down to 5.5L, so Im very happy with it. Its far more fuel effecient then my Genesis and even better then my 07 Civic.

I think its quite foolish to expect the car to get 40mpg everytime and under every driving condition.

True, I think though with the hype of the 40mpg which is being plastered everywhere we all wish that 40mpg would be the norm. Maybe in a few years, although I mean I'd be happy getting near that. But at least if this is your best sales pitch (40 mpg) at least make it that we get that number most of the time. But I think we will once summer comes.

xion nider : J'ai eu le meme probleme de vibration, cela venait du compartiment pour les verres fumées.

As-tu des lunettes dedans le compartiment ? Si oui, tu as a ta réponse a 99%.

:p
well my friend vince you were right!! I removed the sunglasses from the sunglasses compartment driving back home at noon and it did not do it! I was shocked, how come a pair of sunglases can make such a big sound? and seemed to be coming from behind the dashboard!! I am so releived, I was really sad this morning thinking something was loose....well I will be OK in a few days, when I know for sure it was the sunglasses...

I wear my sunglasses at night :shades:

My garage door opener was also making noise there until I flipped it upside down.

Hahahah... Man, I was **** off because of that sound 1 week after purchasing the car. First I was thinking that it was ice somewhere in the bottom of the windshield. Sometimes we have the same sound comming from behind because of the ice in the trunk lid. After 2 week w/o snowfalls, I was sure it wasnt ice. I was searching for the sound and my girlfriend just said that it wasnt coming from the dash. It was higher than that. After removing the sunglasses, no more sound was detected.

I was thinking about calling the dealer to do a road test with a technician to find what was loose. I'm happy to have found it before calling them !

I found another way to place them in the little compartment that is squeezing a bit the glasses.

Never had problem again !

My garage door opener fits nicely up there with no rattles!

Ouch. Its seems like for once, us Canadians are getting cars with better options then the US. My 07 Civic was pretty basic compared to its US version.
Why ouch, I don't mind :bwekk: The pricing is pretty similar overall, which would be a first, only issue is we don't have as many colour options which to me stinks as I can't get the colour option I want!
