Have you ever heard an AEB alarm?

I have started a case with Hyundai on AEB. I am convinced that AEB is not working in my 2017 Sonata. I have 8 dash-cam video's of test's I have conducted testing close encounters with objects and people in which I did not receive any alarms or brake applications.

My local dealer and a Hyundai rep say that the system is operating normally and it is too dangerous to test or demonstrate. It seems to me that their position is I need to have an accident before I will know if it is working or not.

It would help my case if there is anyone on this forum that has any experience with AEB working or not.

I receive forward collision alerts / beeps which appear in the center of the instrument panel on the screen. I have the delay set to long in the settings. I receive alerts just before hard braking in rush hour highway traffic. I also have received alerts when doing a fast lane change into a right turn lane behind a car that is in the turn lane. I never had an instance where the car actually braked for me. I have had the car for about 2 months now.

Robertk - Do you have a 2016 or 2017? These are the only models with AEB. The 2015 only has Forward Collision Warning which only alarms and does not apply the brakes.

I have had the warning on numerous occasions, but my foot is already on the brake, and I have never had it override what I was doing.

That said, there were 2 occasions, where it felt like it was starting to kick in, but again as I was already breaking, it's hard to be 100% sure. But the warnings were definite.

I have the 2016 Limited, Tech and Ultimate packages.

I have had my 2017 Limited 2.0t for about 2 weeks, and I had AEB go off once. I was following a line of car planning to pass, and the cars stopped to make a left hand turn. I was just moving to the brake and the front alert screen popped up on the screen and the alert sound went off. I braked normally within a half second.

I have had the alert, but do have the nerve to test if it AEB works beyond that. My foot is faster than the AEB.

Thanks for the reply - If I can ask, what setting do you have for the AEB (fast-normal-slow) And at what distance would you say you were behind the car in front of you when the alarm first went off.

I can't seem to be able to get an alarm with my car.

Thanks

The AEB Setting is an On/Off setting, which enables the FCW (Front Collision Warning) option. The options on my screen are Late Normal Early, and mine is selected Normal. If I had to guess distance, 200-300 ft. I wasn't likely more than a football field from them and their unexpected left hand turn into a field driveway.

It may have something to do with speed differential between stopped traffic and slowly moving traffic. I have tried to trigger too again since seeing this post, and most times higher rate (60mph) to much slower traffic (20mph - just pulling out from stop sign) never tripped it.

Well since you do not list the Year of your car listed in your info, in my car the settings are Fast Normal and Slow.

Thanks for your reply and it sounds like to me that we have the same problem.
