2.0T Sport Sonata Ate my friends Ecoboost..

I used to be an owner of a YF 2011 GLS 2.4L Venetian Red. Loved that car, and the great get-up-and-go of the GDI 2.4, it really was a great engine. I drove that thing for 60k miles- but always thought about making the step to a limited with more bells and whistles OR the fabled 2.0T limited.

It took years of restraint, but after 4 years and many test drives of 2.0T YF sonatas, The LF came out. I was in the market for something fun, and that was the first option. I loved the fact these cars make 260ft/lbs at 1350rpm- just busts all-season tires. I picked up my current ride- a Black 2.0T sport 2015. A buddy of mine already jumped on the Turbo bandwagon- a 2015 Ford Fusion Ecoboost 2.0. The inevitable finally happened- we both work at the same place- just happened to line up beside each other and it was on.

Sport mode, auto shift- traction control on. Yeah- my tires felt the pain- lots of wheelspin, while his fusion just took off without a chirp. Head to head to about 40 then I pulled away. We were up to 85- a car length ahead.

I have respect for the ecoboost, just couldn't keep up with that Nata'.

What's the latest car you've taken care of at the stoplight?

I beat a Veyron.. Then I woke up..

Congrats on the ride. Just saw a black Sport 2.0T with temp tags in the neighborhood a couple of hours ago when we were going to dinner. You're not in the Dallas /Ft Worth area are you ? lol

Funny I rarely see a Sport 2.0T Limited like mine. Then last Friday while being lazy, I decide to take my car to the car wash around the corner, then a little quick detailer. Well when the other half got home with the Forte5, I OF COURSE had to wash that too but if I wasn't hand washing mine, it wasn't getting hand washed either lol. So I round the corner to the Dollar Store to get batteries. There's a nouveau blue Sport 2.0T Limited right up front. The car wash is right next door - basically the same lot. I get the same $28 "The Works" wash (wash. wax, undercarriage, hand dried, vacuumed, windows, tire shine, etc with the 5 day rain guarantee) for the 5. While they're vacuuming it, a Black Sport 2.0T Limited rolls into the car wash line. The ONE TIME I don't have MY car, it's Sport 2.0T Limited City lol......

I bought a 2017 Sonata Sport 2.0T a month ago. I love this car. I eased into it and let it get a proper break in of 1k miles. Just this evening I was on my way home from picking up dinner and a guy in an older Saturn that was revving his engine at a Honda next to him. I was stopped behind him and when the light changed he gunned it. The Honda didn't want any. I said ok lets give it a go. In Sport mode with the traction control on, usually have it off, I sped up next to him. We were going about 40 mph and he got on it. I got on mine and easily took off on him. Got multiple car lengths ahead of him before letting off. I looked down and was going about 85 in a 35. He pulled up next to me, both of us smiling, and gave each other the thumbs up.

Heh,

Just the other week I also had a guy in a Grand Prix.. est. 00-02' with GM's 3.8L v-6 pull up to a stoplight after riding my butt the last half mile. You knew what was going to happen next, he literally gunned it, and I pushed it about 2/3' and just pulled him.

It's like MFers see the Hyundai badge and assume they're easy pickings. Or they believe that BS 8.3 second 0-60 from the 2015 Car and Driver review.

Yeah a mid 6 or high 6 is no 8.3 seconds. I really hate they got that so incredibly wrong and never thought to revise it.

Nope- from MN. Been down there though the panhandle towards AZ already though. Flagstaff > Sedona was a laugh-riot on the twisties. Happy Turbo .

They did say in their review of the 2016 that the test car they had was not correct. They did the 0-60 in 7.2 I believe. But yeah every time I have it in race settings I get to 60 in the 6s. Wonder if the small mods I plan on doing will help that.

I believe the 3.8s of that era put out in the neighborhood of 200-210 HP? I'm pretty sure the pre-"Series II" 3.8s put out around 170-180 HP - good for the time, but hardly anything by today's standards. GMs 3100 V6s made 155, their 3.0 DOHC used in the Saturn L-Series, Cadillac Catera, and some SAABs made 180 HP - roughly the same as what the NA 2.4 makes in the Sonatas and Optimas. Crazy the progress that has been made over the past 20 years or so.

Always did like the exhaust note on those 3.8s though.

There were two options with the 3800 Series II of that time. I had the 2004 Impala LS, which was 200hp. The Impala SS had the same engine, but added a supercharger which pushed the number to 240hp. The Grand Prix used the same engines, whereas the Grand Am used different i4 and V6 options.
