Fuel Mileage Thread

Let's see some fuel mileage numbers and how they vary during the year when winter blends are used depending on where you live. So far,on the 2017 we have gone thru four fill ups and have averaged 26.1 mpg which is hand calculated and not taken from the car display. All fuel is regular and is on our winter blend. Driving is 70% city(suburban, not true city) and 30% highway.Should get better as I have been breaking it in running it thru the gears much more often than normal.

Below is a chart for the 2015 for the entire 2016 year with averages in red at the bottom of the page. Blue represent lows while reds are highs.

I use Fuelly.com to record every drop of gas that goes into my vehicles. 2015 2.4 Sonata over almost 2 years of 50/50 city/highway driving and we are at 25.5 mpg or 9.2 L/100km. Filled up yesterday after an all highway COLD winter trip and got 781 km/485 miles on the tank at 28.2 mpg /8.3 L/100km. Distance to empty at the time of fillup said 30 km and the low fuel light was on for 30 minutes of highway driving. Put in 65 liters and the tank holds 70. Not too bad considering winter tires and winter gas and cold temps plus a PACKED car with 4 people, dog and trunk loaded to the max.

The cars computer is one of the most accurate I have had, usually off by less than 10%. Here are a few stats from my Fuelly page.

Just breaking my car in, about 2 months old, and have 3300 miles on it now. I also use Fuelly.com to keep track of my mpg's. My average is 30.4 mpg with my best being 32.1 mpg and my worst being 28.6. I do roughly 30 city, 70 highway.

I also drive with the ECO mode on since getting a good mpg is a priority! So far, the car's generated mpg's is close to what I actually get (31.7 vs 30.7 on the last tank.) This is a huge improvement over my VW Jetta TDI sports wagon that claimed I was getting 47 mpg to the reality of 42 mpgs. Somehow I'm not shocked that they may have not been truthful on those mpgs.....

Wife snapped this pic while driving in Canada. This is 120 miles of highway driving after filling the tank .I doubt it will stay that high, but, its the highest I have ever seen on this car and our 2015 LF. From the speedo, you can see we are not exactly hypermillers.

Wife is back from a 1500 mile trip. Mileage did come down from that 40.2 mpg average to 38 and change, but,it was the cars best average on a tankful.Hand calculated plants mpg at 37.19 with 95-97% of driving on the highway.

Interesting that our 2014 computer mileage read out on the screen compared to hand calculating was off by the most by about 3 mpg,the 2015 was off by 2 mpg and so far,our 2017 is better yet.
