Hyundai Sonata 2016 Questions

Hi everyone,

I rented a 2015 Sonata, loved the car, thinking about purchase.

Going to test drive a black/grey 2016 Sonata from Hertz "rent to buy".

-- Do you think Hertz rent to buy is a good idea?

The car is listed at $13,475 36k miles. (I get 3 days with the car and will take to mechanic/Hyundai for inspection)

-- I may end up with a version without the running lights and that is a big deal for me as far as looks of the car. Is there a good aftermarket alternative and a writeup on installation? I've seen the aftermarket parts on Ebay but wonder about the quality.

May think of more questions as I go. Test drive is this coming Saturday- Monday.

Thanks!

I have to say, not sure that is a good deal.
looking at cars.com I am seeing new se and sports for 1k more.
wouldn't bother used at that price.

14900 for a new sport.

Thanks.

But...

I hate the car buying process and at the allure with Hertz is no haggle and no fees outside of taxes and title...

Three day test, all mine to get comfortable or not and Hyundai tech lookover.

With these new cars, isn't there delivery fee and this fee and that fee bringing it to something really out of the range of sticker? This TX dealer with all these low prices? The SE is more miles than their Sport version for sale and only explanation with 50 miles on it is showroom version. I am specific on black and grey also.

To me the car I refed above is broken in which sounds funny I know but all recalls, any minor problems, etc. have likely been sussed out.

Plus a dealer close by whom I can go look in the face if need be...

Rental companies are notorious for poor maintenance on their cars, plus as everyone knows people beat rental cars into the ground. Go to a Hyundai dealer & look at certified pre owned Sonatas.

I'll bet anything that any recalls for the car were not taken care of. Go on the Hyundai web site & click recalls & enter the vin #.

if you are still haggling to buy a car, you aren't doing it right.
it is easy to email and get an otd price instead of what they advertise.
email 2 or 3 dealers near you and get that quote instead.
no haggling just finding the right price.

I get the broken in thing, but you lose out on the 10 year warranty buying it second hand.
And any dealer will service your car new or used, but at least you get the 1 year anything going wrong adjustment time on a new car vs whatever they patched up on a used one.

you don't even have to use the texas dealer, just show your local what they offered and see what they can do.
for a few hundred more you get a new car vs used. while mileage isn't the concern it is the warranty transfer you want to look at.

"Ex rental car" should be a cue to start running away, fast.
The whole "broken in" thing is a myth these days as well.

It's still a rental car, active and in service. But I get it what you are saying Teedot.

I checked the VIN JimmyNY no open or closed recall data. The car went into service in November of '15 or so. Maybe there have not been any recalls that affect this particular 2016 model. I've rented several rental cars. Outside of my stupid and misguided youth, I have treated rentals very kindly. Most will say the same.

It's actually got 33k miles. Not 36k but that's not so important

Black just seems to be more expensive and I'm "**** bent" on black/gray so trying to get a dealer into a position to give me a great deal based on my specs is tougher than just accepting "ok, you have white/beige (barf) at my price well then ok".

They are giving me THREE days with the car. If Hyundai tech and my personal mechanic can't figure out whats going on with the car well then there is no hope for me.

Time is a factor and I don't want to go around getting quotes from shady dealers. (granted Hertz can be shady too)

15k is top of my range with taxes title incl...

The Hertz Rent to Buy message board is full of people who are fine with their outcome.

It's going to be a work-car, rideshare to be exact, I theoretically lose out on the warranty anyway. (residual warranty maybe challenged I know)

Anyway, I am renting it this Saturday I'll keep you all up to date...

Have been involved in use of rental car years ago... I drove 1 to school, 4 noisey wheel brgs.. I wanted to scream.. Had 1 at Sebring about 33yr ago at the 12hr race,,, ran over curbs, neutral slams..

Rental,,,,, run away like last month

I had a rental for a week while I had my front bumper replaced last year... Believe it was a 2015/2016 Nissan Murano... front end already had a slight clunk and it barely had 20k on it. I'd be willing to bet it had been on more than a few romps off of paved roads.. some gashes in the paint as well... lol
