Questions about stock 18's.

Went to the dealer for another of my bazillion free oil changes. I let them change the air filter since I was about to anyway. Came back again with a nail "too close to the shoulder to repair". Told them I'll go to Discount Tire since I bought the plan from them a week after I got the car. It was close, but was still repairable close, not non-repairable close. Plug-patch. Got me thinking about our road trip in June. I'd probably feel more comfortable with a real tire over the donut doing 4000 miles over 2 weeks..
- Does an 18 inch tire fit the spare tire well without eating up the trunk ?
- Any idea how much the stock wheels weigh ?

I'm thinking a decent used stock or take off if I knew where to find one, or maybe just a cheap new wheel and tire.

I have purchased wheels from this site:

Hyundai Sonata Wheels Rims Wheel Rim Stock OEM Replacement

They look identical to stock and are good quality. It may be a bit more than you want to spend, but at least you will have a spare that you can rely on for a long road trip.

As far as space, a full size spare most likely will not fit in the stock spare location. However it will not completely consume the entire trunk...so if you pack smart you should be all set.

Good luck.

I do not think so. Spare tire well is too shallow for full size tire. But you can keep this 18" assembly in the trunk - here you have sufficient space. Once, having spare donut mounted on the car I had a regular wheel dismantled and stored in the trunk without a problem

I searched those sites, Ebay, etc. The cheapest price I found for my wheel was $230. The other OE 18 was $175.
I'm actually thinking about getting one of [these](http://www.discounttire.com/en/buy-w...-dr-19/p/45382) from Discount Tire for $130. I was actually considering these. We had them in silver on the 2012 Forte and they're great. That way if I really like it, I'll buy the remaining 3 after seeing it on the car. If not, then it's just a spare. This afternoon, I'll take a wheel off and see how it fits in the trunk. The bride whose wedding we're driving out to, may charge us with transporting her wedding dress lol. She doesn't want to take it on the plane and is afraid to ship it. A BIG responsibility lol.

That wheel looks like a pretty good deal, and it should look good on the car.

Luckily wedding dresses will not stain if you lay them on top of a tire

FWIW - the stock 14-inch wheel fits in the Accent spare tire well, and I've read the 16-inch wheel does also. Not sure how the Sonata is, though ...

Speaking as someone who just cleaned out their trunk yesterday, I can confidently say that the full size 18" tire/wheel on our car will not fit in the spare compartment. However, if you have one of those kits with jumper cables, flares, and other miscellaneous stuff that never seems to leave the trunk, you could easily relocate that to the spare compartment and free up space for the tire in the main area.

My car is in for a tire replacement now. Found two rather large bubble on the driver front, likely parting gifts from a pothole after last week's storm. Luckily I have a plan from the dealer that covers not only the tire, but also the Lincoln MK-S I've got as a rental.

That's strange. I just removed the right rear wheel and dropped it right in. It sticks up an inch or so but it drops right in. SIDE NOTE: Dealer gorrilla'd the EFF out of the lug nuts when they rotated the tires yesterday. I had to jump on my 4-point wrench. I'll go see my girl at Discount tomorrow since she's off today. I'll order a wheel & tire, and ask them to loosen and re-torque them for me.

Tire and wheel are 26 by 8 3/4 and will fit in the place of the spare as I have one in there with no issues. you will have to find a location for the jack and tools.
