I'm DONE with all the junior members that are now taking over this forum and wanting help, I would assume, and thinking it is appropriate to make snide remarks. If they show their ignorance on how something on the car works how would I assume they have read the owners manual or had any idea about how the technology on the car works.

I have spent 2 years figuring out my Sonata's technology. I thought I was doing a good thing by passing on what I have learned but by the comments from the last two I have tried to help that is not the case !

Do yourself a favor and use the like button or posting a thank you when you get an answer to your question even its not what you want to hear!

I'm a newb. You will see by my posts that I definitely appreciate all the help people on this forum have given me since I got my car. I do think you are being a little grumpy regarding getting likes and saying thank you for your advice. I'm a newb here but there are other forums and other topics that I am not a newb at, and I get enjoyment out of sharing knowledge and helping people learn or accomplish something. The people you or I or anyone on a public forum have helped don't owe you or us anything. A like or a thank you is nice, but I think a contributor on a forum should get their enjoyment from being the person who knows the answer, not being thanked.

Edit: I liked your post. [emoji6]

Some people are just wrapped a little too tightly for internet forums.

You meet all kinds on forums, and a little patience is sometimes required.

Perhaps it would serve all better if you lost the attitude and shared some of what you learned in your study of the technology.

You should look at the history of many new members. Most of them are trolls and ride bicycles. Multiple automotive make/model forums are full of these losers. Same stupid threads pop up on dozens of different forums regularly..... makes you wonder how legit some of the forums really are.

Recently have seen a major rash of new thread started with a thread title that has NOTHING to do about the actual question or issue that the member supposedly has.

Paid trolls, SJW's, losers, advertiser revenue generators?

Best thing to do is ignore them.

Can you refer us to a few examples of what you are talking about.Seeing that you are in Florida and it took you two years to figure out the tech on the Sonata Im assuming you are a senior citizen ,as many others mentioned relax, enjoy life and if it makes you any happier I "liked your comment" hope that makes you feel better.

AH, S-L started a whole thread because I answered a generic car question, sent me a PM about it and ranted all over the place about "people not owning Sonatas shouldn't answer."

Feh.

I'm a junior member and I don't even own a Hyundai yet - I have a deposit down on a Tucson 2l 185, due to arrive on my birthday in January :) :) :)

But I really enjoy this forum - I'm been around 3 forums plus USENET and this is the only Hyundai forum that's actually alive - and alive it is.

I really appreciate tips here (mostly concerned with accessories I'm going to kit it out with) - but I'm not shy to state an opinion based on my experience with other makes of car (I'm 48 and have owned a fair few makes and models - used to do a lot of my own work, but tend to run away screaming now due to the complexity).

I'm also ready to be rebutted if someone doesn't like what I've said :)

It's a great place - and I hope, when I get my Tucson, I'll be able to contribute more...

Cheers from Blighty!

Tim

For the most part, everyone here is kewl and very helpful. Almost all other car forums have members that aren't as considerate as people here and the topics are unhelpful circlejerks. Unfortunately, it's not the positive things you remember, especially when you're the target.

I remember that reply to Old's Cool saying he shouldn't be here cause he doesn't have a Sonata. That guy was being a douchebag, especially because Old's Cool was being helpful.

I also remember reading the DRL thread when Left_ Snow posted his suggestion and thinking smjbill's response was uncalled for, but Left_Snow also didn't do himself any favors with his reaction.

I don't think outright leaving the forums because a few people are being immature is the right move, since there's a lot of good material here. But at the same time, we as members sometimes need to put on our parenting hats and teach others when their posts are bad form.

There are many many other forums that tend to be quite a bit less enjoyable.

This one is definitely active, and very laid back. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Just ignore the non-sense and move on.

Fwiw. I don't even technically own a Hyundai (Just my wife) So i guess my years of experience and certifications with the brand are irrelevant. Others in the same boat too.

Cliffs notes - it's the internet. Take it or leave it..?

Oh man. You hit a nerve. I have the same issues on another forum, as I am the lead tech there. Sometimes I feel the same way. You are right in complaining.

My problem is I suffered 5 strokes, and my reading and math skills are destroyed. I lost my business as a result. I certainly don't like asking for help. But I cannot absorb 90% of what I read anymore.

As a relatively new member, I kind of hope I wasn't one of those. . . . If I was my humble apologies. Although I am an advanced shade tree with an engineers degree

As mentioned previously @sbr711 is a Hyundai Technician and often the best source of information here - and DOES NOT OWN a Hyundai.

My problem is I suffered 5 strokes, and my reading and math skills are destroyed. I lost my business as a result. I certainly don't like asking for help. But I cannot absorb 90% of what I read anymore.
Didn't realize that and sorry to hear it. The forum does tend to wander (like my Boss Hoss trike post above). I tend to enjoy that, but ...

In your place, I would probably be selective in what posts I reply to, and in threads you start, maybe copy that line above "I suffered 5 strokes, and my reading and math skills are destroyed. I certainly don't like asking for help. But I cannot absorb 90% of what I read anymore. Please keep all your replies on-topic."

I think most members here would respect that.

It takes all types to make the world go around. Sometimes all you can do is shake your head. You can't control others...only how you react to them. I understand where your coming from but what works for me is a break. Just as there are folks that don't appreciate knowledge and help there are many more who truly appreciate it.

Well said! Some act like stupidity was a virtue.

The other problem as I see it is that some have no patience at all or think they know it all. I know I am kinda rambling here but many moons ago, and I mean many moons ago, I was coming in from a long training flight and call in the tower for landing instructions. The tower guy says to hold short and for all you non flyers out there that means stay off the active runway and I'm at 5K feet up in the air and short on fuel with three other guys in the Huey.. Anyway I call the dummy again and he starts screaming at me, I TOLD YOU TO HOLD SHORT so I lost my cool and started yelling at him "hold short to what, my wiener?? Needless to say as soon as I got down I went over to punch him in the nose but I realized that I outranked him by twos so I would be the one in trouble. Some people get upset for no reason at all.

So what am I trying to say here to you all?? Frankly I have no idea but I have made it to 67, shot down once, two heart attacks and still going and learning everyday something new.
