2.4 GDI Oil Level

Hi Folks,
Any issues or experiences with your car's oil level between oil changes?

Yesterday while changing out my Engine air filter I decided to check the oil level before taking it in for an oil change. It appears to be less than halfway between the L and the F. I triple checked and it was at the same spot. Now I'm wondering if I need to worry if the engine is burning oil. This would be under the assumption it was topped up to the F at the last oil change 6000 Kilometres (3700Miles) ago but I didn't check back then unfortunately.

Today after the oil change at the dealer, I checked the oil and it was filled to the F so I'll have a better comparison when checking in the next few weeks.

If you are close to your next oil change, please have a look too and let me know where the oil level is sitting.

I know I am old school but I check all liquids as well as tire pressure every week. In the event something is low, you caught it on time to correct.

I just checked my oil today. It is 5000 KM (3100Miles) since my last oil change end of November. The oil level is below the L!

Do I just top up myself and then mention it to the dealer to check next oil change, or is it something I should bring to the dealer right away?

How much oil is between the Low and Fill dots?

Normally, there is a one quart difference between the L and F mark on the dipstick.

I've got two vehicles and three motorcycles, and i check the bikes over, including oil level before every ride and the cars at least once a week. I thought everyone did. Who knew.

Always check the level immediately after a change. Run the engine for a few minutes, turn it off for about 5-10 minutes and then check it again. If the level is below the "F" mark add about a half quart if you are at the mid point between "L" and "F". Give the oil about five minutes to make it from the head to the pan and check again. Always wait a few minutes between adding oil and checking to let it get to the pan. If you do it immediately you run the risk of over filling, which is a bad thing.

A good rule of thumb is to check the oil level while filling up with fuel. That way you are checking every 300-500 miles and can spot a dropping level long before damage is done.
