Been doing them for about a week now.. appears newest version software is included to previous updates all rolled into 1..

Description:

This bulletin provides a logic update and inspection for CEL (“Check Engine Light”) ON with DTC
P200A (Intake Manifold Runner Performance - Bank 1) and for P0605 (Engine Control Module - ROM
Error) on certain 2015 and 2016 model year Sonata (LF) vehicles equipped with a 2.4L GDI engine.

The vehicle may exhibit one or more of the following conditions:

• DTC P200A (Intake Manifold Runner Performance - Bank 1)

> Check Engine Light ON

> Slight hesitation or reduced power during acceleration

> Automatic transmission upshift hesitation during acceleration

> Clicking noise from the intake manifold VCM (Variable Charge Motion) actuator when the
engine RPM is increased

• (2015 MY Only) DTC P0605 (Engine Control Module – ROM Error)

> Check Engine Light ON

> Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Warning Light ON

> Limited engine power (“Limp Home”) mode

Follow the Service Procedure outlined in this bulletin to update the ECM and confirm proper operation of the VCM Actuator.

Applicable Vehicles:

• Certain 2015-2016 SONATA (LF) with 2.4L GDI engine

I had a VCM go out while driving a couple of nights ago.
Is this a normal thing that the VCM fails while driving (15,000 miles)?
After it had failed, I tried to press the gas pedal about half way down to full throttle and the car would fall on it's face.
Yesterday morning was planning on driving it to the dealer and after startup the CEL came on.
While driving to the dealer still had no power about half to full throttle.
The dealer said that they first need to do this update to the ECM first before they could do anything else, so the RO says the tech did the update and road tested and still had the problem and so the tech replaced the VCM.
Am I going to have this problem again with the VCM failing?
The service writer said to me that the old design the shaft was made of plastic and the new design the shaft was made of steel.
Is this true?

Thanks.

2.4 ECM Update/ tapping/buzzing/surge stumble

Had update done to my 2015 Sonata 2.4 on 2/12/16, seems a little more responsive, but has not corrected my surge/stumble issue when you take your foot off brake pedal. Anyone have that issue? I had tank fuel pump, fuel line and HPFP replaced after Hyundai tech from Tenn. was sent up to diagnose tapping/buzzing sound from engine and surge/stumble brake pedal issue when releasing foot off of brake pedal and found fuel pressure to HPFP at times was 10% of normal. Tapping/ buzzing sound less but still loud, just less loud. Still have brake surge/stumble issue. Going to pressure dealer to replace roller tappet under HPFP, as per success of some members to help quiet tapping/ buzzing HPFP noise and also will demand Hyundai tech to return to further address brake pedal surge/stumble, since prior mentioned parts replaced did not solve issues and before I become another automaker death statistic due to their cavalier repair attitude. Thinking of going Lemon Law or possible class action lawsuit as some have done for not addressing these issues promptly

Hey i too have that happen when i release the break sometimes like it shakes slightly
And a f- xxking annoying buzzing sound that is the loudest when i do a cold start and dies down the longer i drive but it annoys the F out of me when i hear it
Not only because of the sound but because its a brand new car less than 5k miles and i owe 20k+ -_-
But some say its normal but i dont like it one bit.

Figure approx 15 minute plug-in and burn.. add time spent in aisle with the service writer, and time till it get dispatched out to tech.. most people sit and wait if it the only item on the ticket

Really depends on how long it sits before and after. I have a dash cam and the car sat in the bay for an hour with no one working on it and outside for 45 min when it was done. I had to ask if the job was done before they said "oh yes it is done"

Guess my time is not valuable to them or they get paid from the time the service guy does the paper work until I pick up the car.

I hate to take my car to a dealer and I have tried 3 in my area. All the same. Maybe because I don't allow all the expensive and unnecessary repairs I am on their list.

I am VENTING and probably preaching to the choir. Sorry

I also received the update yesterday and I notice much better responsiveness when using automatic speed control. Prior to the update I was very frustrated with the acceleration after automatic speed control reduced the car speed. It was so conservative that cars would often go around me or honk because of the distance that would be created between the accelerating car in front of me and my position. Now, the acceleration is much quicker both in the time it takes to start the acceleration and with the acceleration rate.

Just got mine done last night.. took just under an hour at the dealership i use. So far the difference is minor.. definitely some new get up to it. things feel a bit smoother overall as well.
I never had the engine cause shaking or shuddering so i can't speak to that. I can add that this morning it started up a little quieter, as i have a very loud start up.. usually only lasts a minute max, but this morning was certainly more quiet than before.

Sport mode seems to have a little more pep in it as well. I did notice it will hold the RPMs just a tad bit higher as well more close to 2k then 1.5k like it used too. its nice to have that little extra power ready at any time.
Haven't tried ECO mode yet, can't speak to that yet either.

I suppose you could cross Niagra Falls and head down the Blvd to Amherst-Williamsville and visit Northtown Hyundai and get it done if GDS determines ROM eligible for update.. may as well have the check all the tabs on the ECU UPDATE screen seen as having possible update,, read ROM,, if offered, install it..

Canadian car cannot have warranty done in USA,, but see no reason you couldnt purchase updates as available
