Getting ready to buy a 2016 Sonata Sport with the Premium Package. The only thing that I want to add on is the Auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink and compass. It's part of the Tech Package but I really don't care for all the other things in there - especially the added costs.
Question, can I purchase that upgraded mirror from the dealer's Parts Department and then have the dealership install it, or can you only get it with the Tech Package? If you can get it as a dealer add-on about how much should I expect to pay for the mirror and how much for the install?
Thanks in advance for your help and I'm looking forward to being a member of this forum. Should be some great info in here for me to learn from.
Not sure if it is the same as it was in 2015, but it is basically just a factory option - some have it, some don't. I think it was standard on the Limited and the lower trims with the tech package. I know that even a base SE could have it as an option (it could be an added option if it had the optional popular equipment package). There was one '15 SE I was looking at that had it... it was just a factory option. Should be able to look around and find one with that option unless there is one you have already spotted that you have to have that does not have it. In that case, I imagine they could add it on as a dealer option.
You can either buy the mirror from a dealer or from Amazon or an auto parts place.,the manufacturer is Gentex and their mirrors are used on most makes and models. Install takes about 30-45 minutes and requires some minimal wiring. I used busman add a fuse and ran wiring up the a pillar to power mine.
I bought a OEM mirror from the dealer with a 15% off discount parts coupon and the dealer install is a half hour labor.Total cost was just under $300.Well worth it to me.
Compass not a big deal to me but dimming and Homelink is a must for me.
we have 2 value editions. one came with it, one did not. with tinted windows, the dimming dont work. the garage door opener is handy, but at night, the push button is hard to locate unless looking at it. and if you are turning into the driveway at the same time, it is kinda distracting. i dont miss it on the other car
I had this mirror on my previous 2013 Elantra GLS/Prefered Pkg and have it on my current 2015 Sonata Sport. Both cars had tinted windows @ 30% including back window and the dimming feature workes beautifully on both without any problems whatsoever. I considered it a must option when purchasing the 2015 Sonata. I personally do not know of anyone that has had a problem with the dimming feature with tinted windows.
For many Hyundai model this is an option that is added at the Port of Entry. (Yes, even models built in AL are transported to some US location that is considered a Port of Entry) I have asked but it seems there is no specific formula which determines which vehicles get what at the Port of Entry.
I haven't had any problems locating the button at night, it's lighted. It opens my garage door 2 or 3 houses away so that by the time I arrive at the garage it's fully open. A nice feature when there's 6 inches of snow on my inclined driveway and I need momentum to make it to the garage.
Humm, neither the one on my Elantra or the Tucson is lighted on mine. Granted I purchased and installed the one of the Elantra (GENTEX), but the dealership installed the factory GENTEX on the Tucson.
