Let's talk Nav System Update

My Sonata was delivered with Version 6 of the maps even though Ver 8 was the current version. I complained to both the salesman and the service manager neither would even talk about fixing it.

It just seems to me that the car should have been delivered with the most current map. My experience with dealership's is that they have NO concern for customers after you drive the car off the lot.

I purchased a card with version 8. It is recognized by the system and even reports the new version on the system info screen. When I press update, I get "Please check the update memory & try again" Has anyone come up for a fix for this problem.

What is the update memory? Is it on the card or the head unit ?

Actually version 9 is the current version. I'm guessing you bought version 8 from someone that either updated to version 9 or just copied another version 8 card. If it's the latter, I doubt you'll get it to work. If it's the former, not sure if they do something to the card after it's installed to prevent this. I'd at least pop the card into a PC and see if there's anything on there where the dates seem to be out of line with the rest of the contents.

Into every man's life a time comes when he must get up and make something of himself. And when that time comes, I'm going to be well rested.

When you go the official route and update your maps via MapNSoft, they require you to provide your NAV system Device ID number at time of purchase. Then they give you a code to enter during the update process that corresponds to your specific Device ID (I'm assuming compared through software) that allows the update. This prevents one person from buying the maps and redistributing them to a dozen other people. The same thing is likely occurring in your situation. You said you purchased a card with version 8, but that card is assigned to another vehicle's NAV Device ID, not yours, AND, you don't have the code that matches it. Either way, it won't work.

Regarding this comment, I completely agree. You just bought the car so it should be completely updated, or at least you should be able to update it for, I don't know, the first 6 months. After that, pay the outrageous price for map updates like the rest of us. Here's the thing about the map updates. They are via MapNSoft. The dealer "supposedly" has nothing to do with that, as it was told to me by the Service Manager. If you had known the maps were outdated prior to purchase, you could have requested they update them, or provide a MapNSoft Voucher (coupon code)- so you could do it (FOR FREE). That would be fair, and not unreasonable. Who would intentionally purchase a vehicle with maps that are 3 versions outdated? And, what dealer would expect a customer to be happy with that?

What you're asking for is not legal/ethical and should not be discussed in the forum.

The only official recourse's you have are: 1) to call Hyundai Corporate and file a complaint against the dealer who sold you the car with outdated maps and hope for the best....2} go to MapNSoft.com and buy the Map Update.

I'm speaking from experience here guys. I just had to spend $3,000 to replace the NAV system in my car. Guess what...it came with outdated maps, even though the service writer PROMISED everything would be updated. 3 grand and you can't give me the newest effin maps!!!??? Trust me, I've been down this road.

Is this for your Elantra? Or do you also have a 2015 or 2016 Sonata? Because, from what I understand the map updates for the LF Sonata don't work like this. I read from another post somewhere on the forum (can't seem to find it) that, in simple terms, there is actually some sort of encrypted key built into the SD card that is unique to the card and the software on it. You can pop the card out and put it into a new vehicle and it will update (and the card has to stay in for the Nav to work), but you can't copy the contents of the card to a non MapnSoft SD card and update a different car. You also can't copy new software to an older MapnSoft card to get it to work.

when i purchased my 2016 sonata, there's 2015 fully loaded with NAV and I asked if map updates are free and my sales told me yes, it'll be all free through them.
I ended up didn't buy that 2015 but the 2016 without NAV.
so the sales lied to me then??
