If its just the actual map data that people care about, it seems like the sd card has a directory called 'data' that includes all that. There is also an apk (android app file) that you can officially update the software with. I know this because my dealership gave me the wrong version (I have the hybrid sonata and they gave me the sonata version). When I inserted the sd card I noticed my neighborhood was mapped out after my head unit booted - my neighborhood isn't with the old version since I live in a new home construction neighborhood. This was before I went to settings > info > update software. What that means is that it was rendering the maps from the wrong sd card.. When I went to actually update the firmware it did a check and said that I had the wrong sd card.

This leads me to believe that all you really need is that 'data' folder and you can copy over the current data folder on your sd card and you'll have the updated maps.. But not the other software features that come with 9.5..

I won't share a link to the backup I made for obvious reasons. I'm waiting for the actual hybrid sd card to show up.

Another interesting note, is the idea that this is an android app. There are some really cool reversing tools for Android out there (baksmali, dex2jar, etc). It's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to make these receivers do *anything* android does.

Android Auto has already been rooted and modified in various ways. Check out the dedicated forum over on XDA Developers, a member known as AdamOutler played a big part in it.

They have already tried this... If you read through pages 3 & 4 of this thread, copying the data from an OEM MapnSoft SD card to another SD card doesn't work. Nor does copying a newer MapnSoft card's data to an older MapnSoft card. Seems like they have thought this all out. They realllllly want you to pay for that update.

I have a stand alone Garmin with free updates. I get a minor update every months with a major 3 hr download update every 2 to 3 months - always up to date. When the dealer updates does it take 3 hrs??
Cheers p

Does any one know the actual difference with the following cards:
96554-E6202
96554-C2011
96554-C2010
96554-C2001
96554-C2000

All of these cards have SONATA written on them.

Questions are:
1) What do the C and E numbers mean?
2) Which cars or Navi systems would support which card?
3) Where can this information be looked up and validated against?
4) Has anyone tried swapping these cards, and would like to share their experience?

Thank you for you time and sharing your knowledge.

Regards.

The memory cards are called Secure Digital, they have not been hacked for that reason. There is a hidden folder only the GPS, or whatever company buys into the "Secure Digital program", can find. You can't copy the disk, use a program to find the hidden folder, hence you can't hack it or copy the entire disk with the hidden area. Many cars use this system, it's absolutely hack proof. Other cars use different methods. One thing Hyundai uses is your VIN, it's encoded to the Secure Digital area when you order it or for the USB type require you to get a code from your GPS so it works only with that GPS. When GPS systems came out even the dealers got caught, they took out the SD card and put it in only when the car would be test driven. They never marked what SD card worked with car. Besides, they are just salesman. Anything to make a sale.

The Car Play download for newer cars states you many get a map update if needed. That's why it downloads a 2 GB file. Again onto the SD card that locked to your GPS.

Garmin lifetime update, read up on that. The lifetime is when Garmin decides to update that particular GPS model. Just like the car GPS, each year and make will have to have a different type of update. Why would they do that, just to confuse the customer. I have a Garmin and for the past 14 months.. no update. Read up on the Lifetime Update scam.

The VIN may get encoded on the SD card once inserted in your radio, but it definitely does not ship from Hyundai/Mapnsoft that way. My dealer keeps a stock of the updates available in their service department, and they just grab the top one in the stack when you purchase it.

I don't know what Garmin model you have but I have two different ones. For both the map updates come out quarterly. I don't always bother updating them but the updates are available. The oldest one, a Nuvi 250 is about 11 years old, still working great and I can update it whenever I want.

Garmin stopped the quarterly updates over a year ago. It's now 3X per year.

Have three Garmin's, been getting free updates once per month, send me a note on my computer, Central Wisconsin. At 3:00AM in the morning, downloads in less than five minutes, hackers went to bed, normal people are still sleeping, I am not nornal.

Was pushing button on my new Elantra Limited with factory GPS, found that WiFi button, what is this for? Ask me for which server to apply for, neighbors have WiFi, selected mine, than the password, connected.

Played with more buttons, found that Info, pressed on this, oh, is this were they are hiding GPS speed and elevation, stupid question, why here and not on the GPS screen?

At the bottom found check for updates, pressed that, wow, checking for updates, found four, that took a long time, this was at 1:00 PM, but actually downloaded 31GB of data, all the BCM's, not the ECU, but also the GPS, checked this, latest version.

Tried this the second time, but at 3:00 AM, was a heck of a lot faster, but this time only updated that CAN thing, 6.1GB, did this in a couple of minutes. Played with everything, really didn't notice any changes.

Also played with my SC card, not that I am trying to steal, just like making backup's, just tried a windows file copy, didn't work, but I think I know what they are doing, either hidden files or checking the file arrangement, this will never be verbatim. Do have some old computer around here someplace that does make verbatim copies, can't remember which one, but sure worked for CD's, but never had an SD card back then. So never got around to trying to.

So why can't I update the ECU? Feel the EPA has something to do with this, with other vehicles, had to take them to a dealer, guys doing this, didn't even know how to switch on a computer, but they are the pros. Can't even type in the VIN, takes them forever.
