Panoramic Sunroof Issues

Since there were a few people having problems with their roofs posting in other threads, I thought I would make a dedicated thread so we don't have to scour the forums looking for this. We can share problems, fixes, or just general comments related to the sunroof.

I just noticed mine creaking yesterday night. Sounds like rain dropping on the roof. When I raise or fully open the roof, the creaking goes away. Seems like an alignment problem because it happens when the car is flexing over uneven surfaces (potholes, leaving/entering driveways, etc), but I'm just guessing.

I've used WD-40 Silicone spray (black can, not blue) with no success. 303 Aerospace with no success. I ordered some Gummi Flege and just got it yesterday, but a few days ago I bought some CRC Heavy Duty silicone spray from Walmart for ~3 bucks.

So far that's the only thing that has actually made a difference. I tracked it down to the rubber seal on the front and rear of the sunroof's roof housing - where it mates to the sunroof itself. If I stand outside the car and push down, I could hear rubber rubbing against the pane. Much less so with the CRC, and driving my car lately has actually been enjoyable. Driving over bumps I'm only hearing road and suspension noises - as expected.

After 3 months of constant non-stop creaking, I got it fixed. Went to dealership, took a couple of hours. It says "lubricated and adjusted sunroof track". The tech told me during the road test that he had to re-torque the bolts or something.

Don't hear a sound anymore, I am finally able to enjoy the car :)

Like all of you, I experienced this problem and took it to the dealership. The dealership lubricated the rubber seal and the rattling stopped. About two months later, the panoramic sunroof on my 2015 Sonata Limited shattered/exploded while driving on the freeway (similar to complaints from Veloster owners). Fortunately it didn't result in an accident or injuries. I immediately took it to the dealership and after ten minutes of cop style questioning, I was told the damage was caused by external impact (debris or vandalism). To the dealership's credit, they gave me a loaner and sent me on my way. I was told they would send pictures to Hyundai and ask if they can cover it under warranty. Hyundai is not taking responsibility for it and are denying any possible defect.

Am I the first or only one who has experienced this? This is our second Sonata and I'm convinced this will be the last one.

2013 Sonata Hybrid Limited noisy sunroof

I had the squeaks for the last 6 months and never had the chance to take the car in and when I finally got the time to drive in my car for the 40,000 km service, they told me there is nothing wrong with the panoramic sunroof... Ok hold on, so no one heard the squeaks in your test drive?!

I took the matter to the service manager and he told me oh we know about the issue and actually there is a Bolton for it. So the booked in my car and after a full day they informed me the noise is still there and they might need to replace he whole sunroof track and railing and because the warranty only covers one year or 20000 for adjustments ... I have to pay for !

Any ideas or guidance?

Panoramic Sunroof Heat

Hi. So I'm looking to buy a Genesis with the panoramic sunroof. What with the extreme heat this summer (and getting worse each year, I presume) have any of you experienced any problems with getting the temperature down? I currently have an Avalon with a moonroof, and I definitely felt the heat at the ceiling on certain days while stuck in traffic, and the inside liner felt very warm to the touch. But the temp was okay once I started moving again.

Looking to buy a Genesis sedan with the panoramic roof. Have any of you had heat issues with the sun this summer? I'm presuming the heat is only going to get worse. I currently have an Avalon with a moon roof, and the heat gain was noticeable when I was stuck in traffic this summer. Heat issue went away once I started moving. Thanks.

Getting ready to buy a '16 Sonata with the pano roof. Are lots of people still having issues with the sunroof creaking? I have read there is a TSB but some people say they are still having issues after the TSB.

Anyone *not* having problems with noise from the roof?

I want to say the majority of sound is due to the misc slide/legs and dry extruded aluminum tracks, and as vehicle shifts, the misc parts move on each other and make sounds.. defect, not really.. ever go to basketball game and hear players shoes squeak on floor when they apply load to shoes on floor ??

Go to part store, and get a bottle of synthetic brake lube (white bottle with clear blue lube).. take and open rppf, and cram a bunch in the rails so that when the slides all move through it, they get film of lube to reduce normal friction sounds of lid closed.. also go around front and rear edge of lid glass and film the black plastic lips to reduce friction sounds of lid when closed to opening in which it sits

I would go that route first, as opposed to having somebody goof with headliner drop (typically results in broken parts) and installing handmade cloth patch between roof rack and roof which is what they tell some to do
