TV3 Campaign (ECU Update)

I am starting this thread because I believe a lot of people are confused about this update. I myself went to the dealership and asked them to perform an update because of rough idling and downshifting issues. They performed an update but there was no mention of TV3 on my report. I still continue to have issues. Could someone confirm from the report I attached whether this is the "TV3 Campaign"? I think this would help a lot of other people up here in Canada where the dealership hasn't heard of a TV3 campaign.

Actually there are quite a bit of people talking about the TV3 campaign. I've noted a couple of threads that mention this (Unfortunately I can't post links at the moment since I've only been registered here for 5 days). The first thread actually has copy that someone attached of a work order mentioning the TV3 campaign.

1) "2015 Sonata Limited 2.4L, engine just died."
2) "slight vibration of car when stopped"
3) "shifting lag transmission rough"

I'm not sure what this TU5 campaign is? I've never heard of this. What does it comprise of and how did you get the dealer to perform it?

I told my dealership the TV3 needed to be done and my paperwork says a S13 was done and that fixed my shifting problems hunting gears.
It fixed even more with shifting, braking, acceleration, and steering in ECO mode, Sport mode, and Normal mode.
Normal mode now feels like the old Sport mode and the new Sport mode is real fun to drive now.

Firefox, could you please post a copy of your work order? I'd like to bring this to my dealership. It seems the problems you are having are the exact problems I am currently dealing with. All of them circle around transmission shifting issues. I'd like them to perform this update so I can just call it a day and enjoy driving the car.

Hello guys,

I was wondering what exactly do you need to tell to the techs and service managers to get this update done? Because in my dealership, the techs never find anything wrong with the car and always claims it rides like a dream even when the car is vibrating while idling right infront of them. My service managers always checks for updates using my VIN number and never finds anything. The other day I told him to hook my car up the computer and check for software updates and he told me he will charge me if they don't find anything as it will be a waste of their time, so I said okay and as expected they did not find anything because I doubt they hooked my car up to the computer at all and just lied to me. So I ended up paying 50 dollars for an non existent update while looking like a total idiot.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

I guess you are in the same boat as the Sonata owners in Canada. I still can't seem to find any info on this TV3 update in Canada or a Canadian equivalent campaign that improves shifting, acceleration, and steering as claimed by people who have received them.

so i see this has come up again to keep everyone from hunting attached is my service order that started it all.

my car was manufactured in July if i recall

also you can't just call your dealership and ask about it, you physically have to go in and the need to scan the ECU this is NOT a vin tracked service as far as i can see.

Whatever they did i have and zero issues with my car since the finished that service

I guess I have the same question for you about this mysterious TV3 update. When you pull your car out before it is warmed up do you get a harsh downshift from 3 to 2 or 2 to 1 when coming to a stop? It seems to go away after it is warmed up. It isn't even cold outside. The ambient temperature is 75F(23c).

#18 ·
Ok, to make things a little cleare;you scanning the car won't do anything, the REAL deal is the tech guy trying to apply the update and IF your car takes it is because it needed it, that is, even if they scan the ECU is not gonna tell them anything until they try it. I actually was there when they did it all. No VIN # over the phone or ECU scan will tell them anything, they just have to run the update and if it doesn't needed it then it'll fail to update (nothing will go bad, it just won't apply that update).

Thanks for the information. I have booked a service appointment for this Tuesday. I am going to go try to make some noise. Just out of curiosity when you pull your car out before the engine is warmed up do you get a harsh downshift with a jerk from 3 to 2 to 2 to 1 when coming to a stop? It seems to go away after the engine has warmed up. Its not like the weather outside is cold. The ambient temperature is about 75F(23C). I think this is a software issue that is probably fixed by this mysterious TV3 update.

You're totally correct - they told me exactly this story - upper part of the wire is for radio, not for defrosting. I did not argue about this, even so my previous Sonata 12 had the same FM radio that did not prevent back window to defrost all the way.

For those that are just going to the dealership to get the update..

You have to complain about a problem before the service department is going to do anything under warranty.
I didn't just go into the dealership and say I wanted the update but I complained that my car was not shifting proper while in stop and go traffic on the freeway, like it wouldn't stay in a gear or out of a gear and than let them know I found on a forum on the internet about a TV3 update and as you can see on my repair order they did a S13 update that may equal to the TV3 update.
Just a fyi.
Good luck.

#33 ·
Yeah thanks, I thought about doing that :p
Of course I wasn't just going to go and say "hey, update me"
And in fact, I do feel like eco and normal are not working as they should
Specially when releasing the gas pedal, I feel like it tries to break/downshift too fast which I don't like.

#35 ·
That is one of the symptoms which I have experienced on top of a whole bunch of other ones. I am at the dealership and have mentioned the TV3 update again. They said they will take a look at it. So let's see what happens today. I am going to make a lot of noise today until I feel they have done what is necessary.

This is not a VIN trackable service, they have to manualy hook your car up to the computer and attempt the flash, if it works you needed it, if it fails then it was already applied... There is NO way to call and ask. essentially there is no simple answer here.

I had it done on my 2.4L in the US, i can't verify anything past that.

Oh dude, that sucks!
We need to keep gathering info, i love the car so far but the downshift thing is really annoying. I get amazing MPGs on the highway going 75/80 and then it all goes to waste in 5 minutes of stop and go traffic because of how much it brakes when lift my foot of the gas pedal :(

Another thing i've noticed, is the engine noise when parked. I turn on the car, even after it was warmed up and its a really loud sounding engine. Of course on the inside you almost don't hear it cause of the insulation, but it is kinda loud if you are standing outside of it. But I don't think it's related to this update

as said by @Olvr007

I saw that and how am I going to convince the tech that they should do that? I've told them that and they're like it would tell us if an update was available. Obviously whenever I refer to the advice from a forum they brush it off as don't trust the internet.

I almost want to go back and find a newer sonata (one manufactured this year) to test drive and see if it exhibits any of these issues I'm experiencing with my car (manufactured in september) so I can come to terms with they're "normal".

I do remember the service advisor saying TV3 came out in November. I'm not 100% sure though. But, why don't YOU call Hyundai Canada and ask them about TV3. Tell them to take their time when trying to find it. And tell them that your dealer couldn't seem to find it. Honestly, at this point I would absolutely get Corporate involve.

The vibration from when the car starts creeping forward is due to a plastic plaque thats loose underneath the vehicle.

Here's the before the fix video
https://youtu.be/i3BiH_KjDKE

Here's the after the fix one
https://youtu.be/ILMjW0riskI

And that absolutely did it for me. Very simple and no more vibrations.

I'm actually driving at the moment, later or tomorrow I'll post more details about how to address this.

#64 ·
Yes I don't think it is the plastic. When I meant vibration I actually meant the whole car shakes and everyone in the car can feel it while creeping forward with the foot on the brake. If I pop open the hood while cold I can actually feel the engine shaking hard.

TCM/ECM UPDATES – 4-3 DOWNSHIFT AND ENGINE IDLE RPM IMPROVEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN TV3)

Description: This bulletin provides a TCM (Transaxle Control Module) and an ECM (Engine Control Module) software update for 2015MY Sonata vehicles equipped with the 2.4L and automatic transmission to revise the logic for the following:

TCM
 4-3 downshift feeling

ECM
 Engine idle improvement diagnostic logic revision for DTC P0605 [Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error] and P0017 [Crankshaft Position-Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

E-CVVT SEAL SEATING (SERVICE CAMPAIGN TX3) -

Description: On certain 2015 SONATA (LF) vehicles equipped with 2.0T and 2.4L GDI engines, the “Check Engine Light” may illuminate with DTC P0010 (Intake Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit) stored in the ECM. This condition may be due to incomplete seating of the internal oil seal plug at the intake camshaft E-CVVT (Electronic-Continuously Variable Valve Timing) actuator.

The vehicle may also exhibit one or more of the following conditions:
 Target engine idle speed is elevated to 1,200-1,400 RPM
 Hesitation and/or slight reduction in power during acceleration

See this exactly why we are going to crazy for getting this updates from our absolutely retarded dealers. The symptoms the PRE-TV3 update describes (Both of them) are exactly what is wrong with my car here. I just want this darn update and go back to driving my car. I want to shoot the service managers at these Canadian dealership. They look at me like I am a an extremely anal person trying to eek problems out of my car for no reason. Instead of working with me to figure the problem out, they are telling me that you are going to forums too much to figure out the problem and apparently it is all in my head.

I thought Hyundai cannot afford to loose customers anymore, that is why I bought the Sonata, thinking they might be really taking some steps to up their service, but apparently not.

Where did that bulleting thing came from? Is there an official link?

If by 4-3 downshift it means from 4th to 3rd then thats exactly my problem.
And I also feel "Hesitation and/or slight reduction in power during acceleration"

And the idle RPMS I haven't checked, i'll do that later today.

My car was manufactured in september 2014

@sbr711 @Munajj

I visited my dealership today to show them the vibration at idle while creeping forward and harsh downshifting. The tech discounted these as being normal. So I took the tech for a drive in another Sonata that was in their lot. This was a Sonata much older than mine too. It was built in April as opposed to mine which was built in September. Funny enough there is no vibration on the car while creeping forward or harsh downshifts. However he still discounted the issues I'm noticing with my car as being normal characteristics of the car. I made a big fuss with the service manager. The tech then suggested that there was someone at 15K km who started having DTC codes that was caused by oil leaking into the E-CVVT actuator. I asked him if this was the TX3 campaign and he had no clue. He said this is was not part of a TSB but was something that one of the other tech noticed and performed on the other customer's vehicle. He said maybe my car is exhibiting these funky symptoms early on without throwing DTC codes due to this. I only have 3K km on my car.

I had already received the two updates which I assume are the TV3 equivalent in Canada (331.LFA and 332.LFA). Nothing has been resolved yet. The service manager said he would offer to inspect and perform the E-CVVT fix the other tech did. So they have ordered the parts and will schedule me in this week to have it done. He did say that he will not promise that this will fix the funky issues that I think aren't normal but he thinks is. I'd like to know if any of you think this will resolve itself and what my next steps should be.

So this weekend I went to the Toronto Dufferin Dealership and complained about my harsh 3-2 and engine vibration issues that I experience when the car is in a standstill with the gear on Drive and with my foot on the brake pedal, which also increases in vibration as I start to creep forward.

The service manager found 2 updates namely 331.LFA and 332.LFA, same as SboBiraj here had done to his car. There are the following things I noticed:

1) All harsh downshifts have been addressed; I drove it for 2 days without having any downshift issues, cold or hot

2) My second issue with the car appears to be unresolved, i.e engine vibration issues when the car is in a standstill with my gear on Drive with brakes depressed, and an increase in this vibration as I start to creep forward

3) 0-100kmph times falls by a second with these two updates. I have a video recorded previous to the engine updates of my 0-100 acceleration where my car does it in 8.5 seconds. After the update, even after several attempts the best I could do was a 9.5s. I noticed that the 60kmph to 100 kmph times are better if not the same after the update, but it is the 0-40kmph time which takes the major hit. The car really feels slow to get off the line, slow enough to be noticed from my previous update.

4) The ECO mode now feels much more responsive but comes a cost to my fuel economy. I usually get 500kms in a fuel tank, but after the updates just managed 450kms despite driving it very carefully.

5) In all of the modes (Eco, normal, sport), the car feels to get off the line from a standstill rather poorly. There were old Corollas who were taking off the line faster than me after stoplights.

6) Once I reach 40kmph the car appears to be really peppy and appears to be a joy to drive. After 100kmph accelerations appears to have improved by a significant margin which I can really feel. There was a BMW Z4 trying to chase me down a highway and failed miserably at it even though I had 4 people sitting in my car. 100-160 kmph is now done in a blink, which I am really happy about.

These are my two cents about my recent ECM updates. All things summed up, I did like my stock ECM software version much better with all things considered. Even though the new update does address the harsh shifting issue, which used to happen once in a while before. I do not know what else I can do to get the dealer to fix the engine vibrating issues as described in 2). Like SboBiraj said, any feedback would be appreciated.

PS: I have attached my recent work order
