Ever since the efficiency campaign was dropped, "we have not had a Tier 1 message that defined Hyundai," said Kraushaar, president of Lester Glenn Auto Group in Toms River, N.J. "We've been out there treading water, not really going in any direction, and there's a renewed focus to go in a new direction. I think that will help in a big way."
Kraushaar said he was particularly disappointed by last summer's launch of the Sonata midsize sedan, which limped out of the gate. Sales rose 5 percent through November, in a weaker-than-usual showing for a model undergoing such an overhaul, as Hyundai's overall sales rose by 1 percent.
"I don't remember the message," Kraushaar said of the Sonata campaign. "And I don't remember seeing it too often."
