Remote starter

Anyone know of an aftermarket remote starter than will work with the factory smart key (i.e. press lock 3x to start). I don't really want to carry a second fob around, and the more I read about the genuine Hyundai remote starter, the more I dislike it. Apparently with the Hyundai model, you have to stop the engine and restart it again before you can drive.

I had the dealership install an aftermarket remote starter as part of the negotiation. It's made by pursuit and although it's not built into the key, the fob is just the size of a quarter that can attach to the keyfob. Be careful as they told me that certain remote starters will void the warranty, that's why they chose Pursuit.

As for the engine, mine would stop if I touched anything in the cabin. I found out later that you have to press the ignition button twice to the on position without a foot on the brake to keep the engine running. Hope that helps.

The Canadian Hyundai Remote Starter for the Sonata should be available in a month or so.

If you have a proximity key equipped vehicle, you will be able to start it with the factory key fob

I don't think the take over of the remote start to driving mode will require you to re-start the vehicle

Oh and you will have the option to turn off the flashing lights too :)

I was told by the dealer that the Hyundai remote starter requires a second FOB and requires you to stop and restart the engine before driving. That's why I was asking about alternatives. Do you have any evidence that this is not true, like a copy of the manual or something?

I know the OEM will not. Maybe ask if it is OEM or aftermarket. Not sure what system they are trying. Maybe get a part number to make sure
Nope, they said its the OEM. (Although Hyundai doesn't actually make it. I think it's made by the company that makes Vipers.) That's why I was asking HOW you know this. Because I'm trying to compare answers from the dealer, who *should* know what they're talking about, to random-person-from-the-internet.

Doesn't much matter, I guess. I'll find out next week, assuming they don't push the release date back again. I'll go to a dealer and ask to see the manual.

When I bought my car in early October, I was given an October 27th date for the "factory" remote start. One of the parts guys overheard the conversation and advised me that he'd been there for 15 years and the remote start availability was always delayed. He said that he wouldn't expect to see it before 2015. Sadly, it looks like he's going to be right.

I'm picking up a 2.0T Ultimate on Saturday and I've been told it will include the factory 2-way remote starter. I'm in Canada and I don't know if that makes a difference, plus there's also the chance they're wrong and will tell me "Oops, we'll have to install it later". But I did ask specifically if it was the official Hyundai 2-way remote starter and they said yes. I guess we'll find out on Saturday.

P.S. They also told me that yes, it will be two fobs and not just the smart key.

I just spoke to the dealership and they've confirmed the remote starter will not be in the car when I pick it up tomorrow. According to them they specifically avoid installing third-party remote starters as they won't be covered under the factory warranty so they always hold out for the "official" ones. They hadn't heard the December 29th date that's been floating around here as the release date but I told them about it so they've responded that they'll check around that time to see if the part is available for order. I'll be curious to see how long it takes to release.

Your dealership parts guys are being lazy. They're simply checking the parts printouts in their binder, which are often 3 months out-of-date, instead of logging into the live parts system on their computers and getting the actual, CURRENT information.

Check this out. EVO-ONE | EVO-ONE All In One Remote Starter, Security System and Data Interface. | Fortin. Insert your make, model and year with push to start - select evo one. It states that it is compatible with your car. I have this installed in my 2014 santa fe with the push-to-start. works great. Press lock 3 times and away it goes. I think there is only 14 wires to wire in. it works as the by pass and the remote starter. Not too bad to do at all.

I was told the remote for it won't replace the smart key I have and I'll have to carry two remotes. If true, it's likely it has nothing to do with whether or not your car has push-button start and should work with all their cars (which is smart, why have more than one model of remote starter for your entire lineup?).

Well, it looks like Hyundai pushed back the release of the remote starter AGAIN. No new date was available today when I stopped in at the dealer. The said they can install a third-party starter without voiding warranty. They sub-contract these installs to a local accessory shop. I stopped in that shop and they use CompuStar starters almost exclusively. Has anyone used one of these brand starters? Any comments on performance/quality?

Also, when I asked the guy in the shop about hooking up the rear-window defroster and heated seats/steering wheel to the starter, he said that they don't recommend it because there is too much current flowing through the circuit for those heating devices and that often causes the remote starter module to fail. This sounds like BS to me. I'm pretty sure that in modern vehicles the device current does not flow through the switching circuit, which is what the remote starter would be connected to. Can anyone with more auto electrical experience than me comment on this?

Its these little things that piss me off. Them pushing the release. How hard can it be to make one? Also, Bluelink is POS. There are a lot of people complaining about it on iTunes app store, under reviews. I hope they remove stupid flashing lights. I also hope they release separate remote starter without it as well.

I had my 3 month blue link trial end last week, and I got auto renewed into the full suite. I called and cancelled everything.

I just logged in today and it gave me the option for 3 more months of free trial. Sweet. Set an alert to cancel before auto renew this time.

Hopefully next year they'll have a physical starter sorted out :(

Thanks for the update. I'll give my dealership a call tomorrow and see what they tell me as well. Maybe they'll recommend a 3rd party remote as well. I did follow a link from here (posted awhile back) for Fortin | Bypass modules, remote starters and alarm systems and they have a remote for the 2015 Sonata "push to start" models. If they have a remote why is it taking Hyundai so long to put one out? It boggles the mind!

I was at the dealership yesterday and chatted with my service guy about the status of the long-awaited "factory" remote start. Revised date is now the end of January. Given that the first date for availability of the remote was October 27th (and the fact that age breeds cynicism), neither he nor I have much faith in the likeliehood of seeing it installed before this winter is over.

Well, I went ahead and had a third-party remote starter installed yesterday since Hyundai has pushed the release date of their starter back SEVEN times since September. If anyone is interested, I bought a CompuStar CM6200-S Remote Start Controller with the RF-P2W901-SS Remote. It's a 2-way system with a 5000 foot range. (Details here: PRO 2-WAY 901 | RF-P2W901-SS | Remote Starters)

I paid the Hyundai dealer for the install, but they outsource it to Ultimate Automotive in Ottawa. Ultimate seems to have done a really good job on the install; I can't tell that any interior panels have been disturbed.

I can confirm the following:

1. It requires Compustar FOBs. So far I have not found a way to start the car with the factory FOB, though I'll update this post if FirstTech comes back with an answer about this.

2. You do NOT have to shut the engine off before driving. The 2015 Sonata allows secure takeover. Here are the steps:
a) Start the car with the Compustar FOB.
b) Unlock the door using either the Compustar FOB, the factory FOB or the button on the door handle (doesn't matter which). When you get in the car, you'll see the instrument cluster is lit, but the radio screen is off.
c) Press the brake and hit the ignition button once. The radio screen will come on. The engine will remain running.
d) Put the car in gear and drive.
More details here: https://support.compustar.com/hc/en...-procedure-for-my-Push-To-Start-vehicle-work-

3. The range on this remote/starter combo is really good. Tonight I was sitting in a movie theatre in the middle of a 24-screen multiplex, probably about 750 metres from my car, and I was able to start it no problem. Haven't tried from farther away yet.

4. The system does have a windshield antenna, which I didn't really want, but it's really small....smaller than some other ones I've seen. They installed it on the spotted portion of the windshield, above and behind the rearview mirror. In fact, it's so small that I didn't even notice it until my roommate pointed at it and asked, "What's that?".

Also have a Compustar on my 2011 and I love it. Glad that yours is working well.

Kind of jealous that the LF Proximity Key system allows you to still use the remotes/door buttons when the engine is running. On the YF cars, the remote falls asleep and cannot be used once the remote start has been completed. So you have to have a secondary remote to unlock the doors. Also, the takeover is a bit different---I have to get into the car and shut the door, then press the brake twice. This is most likely due to having a different bypass module (BladeAI) on my car.

Either way, you will like the two way system way better than whatever 1 way system Hyundai has in development. Also, unless there are going to be two transmitters in the key fob, the OEM system will be limited by the range of the keyfob...mine has about a 100 foot range with a fresh battery.

hey guys, just discovered this today and wanted to add it as a side note
But, my trial expired for remote start about 2 weeks ago, and for giggles and grins today i figured id give it a try just to see.... Low and behold it WORKED! i verified my remote status is inactive on myhyundai and such as well.
So it appears the server that process those commands, doesn't validate against a payed/not payed status.

Just a friendly fyi, can't promise it will work for all, maybe mine was a fluke but i found it very interesting to say the least

Hyundai if you watching, DONT fix it :p

Hi I'm a newbie on this forum. I joined in search of help with my 2013 elantra gls remote starter. I bought this car 2 years ago at the dealer and added the remote start feature. I love the remote start but it wasn't until earlier this week I've been having issues. My problem is this lll leave my heat settings preset and when I remote start my car the heat settings arent on until I turn the key to the on position. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks for reading

I called my dealership (in canda) yesterday to find out when i could bring my car in to get the remote start installed. Cause they told me it would be ready in january. They told me that if i dont have a smart key then they can order it. But i have a smart key so they told me it was lookin more like mid february. When i bought the car in oct i was told Nov. At this rate it will be summer when i get it installed. Brutal.
