Does anyone know if Apple Car play will actually come to the Sonata? I have seen it in reviews but I am pretty sure I do not have it, and I find in mentioned nowhere on Hyundai's web site. I am hoping it will be a software release and so us early buyers will get it.
Also, I was able to hook the car up to my home WiFi network, what is that even for, to download updates to the car?
I think car play will happen later this year. This video has a cool look at Hyundai factory and car play 2015 Hyundai Sonata -- First Drive with Alabama F…: http://youtu.be/fTOmg16xWZ4
oh man that is a huge relief. i asked 4 salesmen today at the dealer and noone knew the answer to this. I hope that it's true it's a software update and not a whole new hardware package.
It's one thing to have carplay. It's another thing for it to work properly. Like most aftermarket companies with carplay headunits it's riddled with bugs. Being in a factory system it would be no different.
"Purewal noted that Hyundai wouldn't tell her when exactly Apple CarPlay would be available in its cars, but noted that they will debut sometime in the 2015 and be pushed out as an update to current owners."
I'm so looking forward to CarPlay. Any GPS software via CarPlay has to be leaps and bounds better than the integrated navigation (which chokes on its own tongue more often than not).
At this point, I'd even be willing to run beta CarPlay. ^^
Will this feature be available for all Sonata trims? Mine is a 2015 Sport, it does not have the navigation, however it does have the touchscreen stereo system.
I saw a press release it will only be available for nav equipped Sonatas. I have a Sport with the premium package and no navigation. I have found the Blue Link turn by turn directions very good. It uses Google maps and provides accurate guidance on the screen but does not display a map. I have a mini iPad for that with cellular.
I think the 2015's with Nav will see something similar but, if you notice, Display Audio is allegedly going to be the low end system on 2016s, complete with a 7" touch screen.
mogelijk is correct. Display Audio will be Hyundai's low cost solution for decent entry level head units. No built in NAV, doesn't come with the Infinity speakers, etc.
Interestingly, it doesn't look like you need Navigation with this head unit, as Google Maps/Navigation works on the screen. The only advantage to a built in Navigation is the built in maps and getting traffic info by satellite. In fact, I suspect even some users with Navigation might use the Google Maps features of Android Auto rather than pay to upgrade the built in Navigation's maps.
From what I can tell, this will not be available on the 2015 Sonatas that do not have navigation. It likely is possible to update the head units that have a color touchscreen (with the rear backup camera), I just don't believe Hyundai has plans to update them.
The release claimed that Display Audio would be available in "select 2016 vehicles". My guess is that models that currently have the 5" touchscreen audio will be upgraded to the new Display Audio, while lower end models with the non-touchscreen audio will likely get the 5" touchscreen along with the backup camera.
I've had my 2015 Sonata Sport 2.0T, with nav system. I took delivery in September with the "promise" that CarPlay would be available later in the year (2015). Obviously, that's incorrect.
I've been unable to get anything even close to a reliable and definitive answer to the simple question "WHEN?". There were lots of claims in the sales literature, but nothing--not even updates from Hyundai--since. This is a sore spot for me on a vehicle with which I've otherwise been very impressed.
according the the newest article above as long as you have the Nav your getting carpal.
when, who knows. but they have added the genesis and azera to the list.
Agree, very frustrating! I saw that Hyundai announced new Heads Up Displays for the future and some other cool stuff at the recent CES, but didn't see anything about Apple CarPlay??
Yes, Android Auto is supposed to be included at the same time the head units are updated with Apple CarPlay. The Display Audio unit articles talk about it. Among the features, both will allow you to display some screens from your phone on the car's touchscreen, such as Apple Navigation through CarPlay or Google Maps through Android Auto -- at least one article I read, the author complained he couldn't get Google Maps through CarPlay. Additionally, both will give the option of reading your text messages though the audio system.
