Hello everyone, I'm new here.

I've been searching around for a bit and have had no luck. I just purchased a 2015 Sonata Sport Premium, and was looking to install a set of HIDs. The headlights have a lock-like mechanism from the inside to keep moisture out so I'm having trouble thinking how to install a set. If anyone could enlighten my way, I would really appreciate it.

I guess the car is too new and no information is available yet ...
Thanks in advanced :)

MadeSICC is corrrect.

There should be a dust cover over the back of the headlight assembly covering the low beam bulb. This will need to be modified to accept the HID bulb. Best practice is to order some extras from your dealer, so if you have to have service done in the future you can quickly convert back to stock halogens and avoid the inevitable warranty voided crap.

Also GET A RELAY HARNESS!! This has been stressed ad nausem in the YF forums and I would imagine the LF will have the same issues with the initial battery draw when the HID's ignite.

Best of luck with the mod and post pictures of the before and after!

I purchased an HID kit for my wife's SFS and didn't want to drill into the dust cap since its a lease. So luckily the housing was pretty big and i was able to fit the whole system inside the housing. It was a tight squeeze to close the dust caps but it works and have no problems. Looks cleaner too. Purchased my kit from the retrofit souce. A pair of Motimoto HIDs. Not sure of the housing on the sonata is large enough but give that a try first before drilling.

I installed HID on my Sonata back in August and i just took them off. I got the 55w 6000K HID and Hid capacitors to cancel the error on the dash. Didn't work out for me, I installed many hid's on different cars that I owned and all of them worked but in this Sonata i guess the electronics are different. A week after i installed them the driver side wasn't lighting up, I got a wiring harness and it didn't solved the problem either.

Below is the reply TRS (the retrofit source) gave me in regards to the sonata sport.

"Hello Justin,

Thanks for getting back to us! The most important information we'll need is going to come down to which of those two bulb types you have. Since you mentioned it was a halogen setup though you would have to have the 9005 option, since the D3S bulb type is a HID bulb. Admittedly since this is such a new vehicle, and one we don't have much feedback on, i'll just have to make my recommendation based on what those vehicles usually take. I can't say with any certainty if the kit will require a bit of an above and beyond wiring scenario, but it should work fine.

If you're just after an HID system and not wanting to open the seal of the headlights for a projector retrofit, I recommend the 9005 Elite HID system: 9005: Morimoto Elite HID System - HID Systems from The Retrofit Source Inc.

You'll see many options here, so don't get too overwhelmed just yet. I'll cover each option below:

Ballast options: You have your choice of 35w (3Five) and 50w (5Five). All OEM HID systems are 35w, so this is the tried and true option. It comes with a five year warranty and produces approximately three times the light of your stock setup. The optional 50w (5Five) ballasts are going to give you about 25% more light over the 35w system, but at a shorter lifespan. Because of the shorter lifespan, the warranty is also reduced to three years instead of five.

Bulb options: We're still getting situated in our new facility to have very accurate color examples, but it's quite simple to cover in words in the interim:

4300K - OEM bulb color. The brightest of the three. Warm white / almost yellowish hue when new.
5000K - Slightly dimmer and slightly bluer than 4300K. Fluorescent (pure) white in color.
6000K - Slightly dimmer and slightly bluer again than 5000K. Light blue in color.

Wire harness: For your car, we recommend the HD relay Harness for proper functionality and performance, but you'll also need to order the capacitor link for the system to function properly. You can find that capacitor link here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/accessories/capacitor-relay-harness-link.html#.VDRYbyldVH0"

rdef1, could that capacitor link be your missing piece?

hi! got Sonata 2015. thinking of changing temporarily to HID headlights, but its only a lease car. will it be an issue with the dealership? if it's an issue, what's the best next halogen bulbs to use better that stock and appealing looking (like higher color temps but still plug and play).

thanks!

no need for a relay harness, no need to remove the bumper, twist out the bulbs, buy dust covers, install grommets into the dust covers, buy a ballast that cancels the alarms on the car, I had my 2015 Base Model Limited done in an hour or so start to finish, no issues 6 months in. Plug and Play, no resistors, no capacitors, no relay kit, plug and play. so what is on my car now ? 5K bulbs, replacement dust covers with grommets, and a ballast on each side for each low beam bulb. I cannot imagine why my car could work like this and anyone else's would not.

I purchased a 9005 HID kit with the CAN bus harness option from TRS (The Retrofit Source). When I initially plugged everything in from the kit I had no light at all from either side. On their website they have some trouble shooting advice for the CAN bus harness indicating to flip the connector at the can bus harness to factory bulb connector connection. When I tried that, the lights came on just fine. Unfortunately both wires to the factory bulb connector are yellow so you don't know which is which. Make sure you check this to save yourself a lot of head scratching. With the CAN bus harness instead of relay harness (can't use both, there's a choice when ordering your kit), I had no "headlight low" message in the dash so it's a must on these cars (2015 + Sonatas without factory HID's).

Im a newb so I cant post links as of yet, but I installed Kensun hids and their warning canceller with no issues. Plug and play and only cost me $65 total off of amazon. I guess I will post the links in 7 days when I am off probation. You can search amazon and they pop right up.

Not trying to hijack this thread, just looking for more info on this [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNBDOV2/[/ame] . Also, there are several options; two of them are "9005" and "H3" but I thought they were both the same bulb with just 2 different "models #", what gives?

Any ideas on how this would work with the projector headlights?

I know LED's aren't supposed to be as bright as the HID's or stock Halogens but I would like to hear your opinions anyway.

I have bought similar LED as the [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VNBDOV2/[/ame] and it did not fit between the light housing and the box surrounding the light, the red section is to long.
