Have you checked the fuses?Have you check the dashboard light dimmer switch? There should be a dashboard dimmer switch on the dasboard next to the left side air vent.try those 2 things and see.I hope this helps.

ask your dealer to check the diode "Z04" in the under-hood fuse box. This only takes 5 minutes.

Hey guys,

I was just wondering whether it's possible to somehow change the backlight for my tacho to red from the standard blue that comes with the GS? Has anyone changed it?

Thanks.

No yoy cannot the instrument cluster is a white illuminiscent material that will only glow blue at night. As for you lights not working:

It's not a diode, remove the instrument cluster and all associated wires unscrew all the screws and place the unit intact on the bench, do not unplug any of of the connecting looms with in the cluster, GO to your dealer and order an inverter, it is the black box that will drop off from with in the cluster, this unit does actually tend to fail, I had to change mine, it cost around $120 to buy but the trickest part is placing the aluminium covers inside the cluster and getting them to line up. Where do you live for around $50.00 I'll fix it for you dealers quoted around $120-200, and instrument cluster places tell you to go and buy an new cluster..

I had the same problem a while back. I went to the dealer and bought 4 new diode fuses and it works again. I replaced the two in the fuse box under the hood and 2 in the fuse box in the car. Diode Fuses are those black ones... I know it was probably only one, but you can't go wrong with replacing all 4.

I had the same problem before, and it turned out to be a burned out dimmer switch. $15 later from a junk yard and I was back to new

Hey guys. This info is great.

I posted a similar question a couple of months ago but didn't get a response. This is the info I was looking for. Just goes to show it pays to keep checking back because you may ask when the right people just don't happen to be on.

I just wanted to indicate that people's answers probably often help many more than just the one who asked.

Thanks.

Hello, thank you to all who have contributed to this thread.

I too have a 2001 Accent SGI and the blue dashboard lights won't come on and I need some help.

I have tried everyhting mentioned so far in this forum:

- tail lights are not affected, so it's not a fuse problem
- I've checked all fuses, all are good.
- I've replaced all 4 black diodes (2 under hood, 2 under steering column)
- I've replaced the rheostat (dimmer switch)

Now the strange thing is the "white" lights that illuminate the odometer and trip odometer ARE working and do dim with the dimmer. Just no indiglo blue to light up the tach, speedometer and gas and temperature gauges.

Tonight I took the cluster out of the car and notice the odometer has "push & turn" little lights that you can pop in and out, as does the entire lower row of status lights.

I cannot find ANYTHING to seems to point to where the light is for the indiglo blue lights?

Can someone point me in the right direction?? I have taken a close up photo of the back of the cluster if that will help.

Also, I notice on the back of the cluster there are actually a couple of "sockets" for more of those "push and turn" lamps, but they are sealed over with some sort of black tape, obviously from the factory.

ANY help on getting my blue indeglo dashlights working again would be a very much appreciated help!!

Thanks.
