Does anyone know what the electrical drain on the battery is when the ignition switch is off and everything is off.
[b]Could be anything..
On my Accent 2000 2 door model L engine I measure about 150 milliamps.
[b]About 5x too much of acceptable "sleep" value..
I placed an ammeter between the negative battery cable and the negative post of the battery.
Does this seen normal for this car?
[b]WAY TOOOO MUCH current flow
Any help will be appreciated.
Key is out of ignition, and doors closed.....
Have assistant inside car fold the rear seat down and look in trunk, or look for cargo light if hatchback.
Start pulling fuses 1 at a time till current drops to no more than 25-30mA.. DO NOT put fuse back after you have pulled it, you want to pull 1, and leave it out, move to next, pull it, and leave it out, --- lather --- rinse --- repeat...
When you find offending fuse, refer t owner manual or ETM and see what all uses that fuse, and proceed from there.
Well, this time I noticed it was 230ma not 150ma. with doors shut - hatch down, dome light off. It measured 230ma.
I pulled the 50amp Battery fuse and it went to zero. I put it back.
[b]You cut the tree off at the trunk there..
I noticed when I pulled a 2 fuse group carrier (each fuse 10amp) the current went to zero.
[b]Need to isolate it to which fues is drivin the circuit with excess draw
It said one was for Room Lamp the other was Audio.
The culprit was the Room Lamp - yet I can't see anything on.
[b]Could be other items on tha branch you not aware of... ETM or owner manual will call out most of the items on that circuit.. with fuse in and draw high, start unplugging items in that circuit till .. you know which branch it is, now you need to move on to the "twig" (tree talk)..
Naturally with the Room Lamp fuse pulled - I lost the trunk lite and dome lite and the door ajar light from the dashboard.
But what was surprising was I also lost the radio - even with the Audio fuse inserted.
[b]Told you there is many items on each fuse, not just what it is labeled..
Also with that fuse out current draw is zero - dot the usual 25 to 30ma. you mention.
Well now at least I found the circuit branch that is causing trouble, but it's still not fixed.
[b]Keep going, branch on tree goes out to twigs, you need to find the items on that branch and disconnect till draw drops
Any tips to try at this point?
I have ROOM LAMP :
ROOM LP 10 TCM, Audio, Instrument Cluster, Courtesy Lamp, Power Antenna, ETACM, DLC
The abbreviation's are killing me.
Could you help me with:
TCM = [b]Trannsmission Control Module
ETACM = [b]Electronic Time Alarm Control Module
DLC = [b]Data Link Connector (Black 16 pin plug for scan)
All the help is very much appreciated.
DLC = Data Link Connector (Black 16 pin plug for scan)
This I have but with out power (12v) to pin 9 - would that be a problem during car inspection?
[b]Could be, as some scanners get their power here..
sbr71 your help has been very much appreciated.
Do you repair for a living?
