I'm looking to get a spare key made for my 2000 Hyundai Accent GS, but it seems like all the places I try can not do it. I tried Ace Hardware, Walmart, and a few local shops and none of them can do it for me. And suggestion on where else I could go?

If you got a key tag that has a code on it when you bought your car, you can go to a Hyundai dealership and see if they can make a spare key for you. I know that they gave me one when I bought mine new for if I ever needed get another key made.

nope, no keytag; I bought the car used so IDK if it ever came with one or not. Could that code be found anywhere else in my car?

dont think so. Maybe a Hyundai dealership can make a key without the keycode, or it could possibly be in the manuel.

The key code is only a neccesity if you don't have a key to copy. The dealer will also copy a key for you, as long as you can show proof of ownership.

I've had keys made at Things Remembered, they used a Cole HY6 blank.

There's never enough time to do it right, but there's always enough time to do it over.

sbr711 is an unknown quantity at this point
Go to the parts counter at your local Hyundai franchise...

Have the VIN, and proper documentation that you are registered owner of vehicle (thats what we require at our place),, DMV registration/title to car, driver license, and part Manager will get on his terminal and run VIN for key code..

If dealer has code cutting ability, they will cut... we do not, so we have lock shop about 1 minute up the street who we use for lock repair and key cutting.

<--- please fill in the 'location' and 'what you drive' boxes on your personal profile page.
This information makes it much easier for other members to answer/comment on your posts.

Unless I'm mistaken...they have a key and just need a copy. Any locksmith or place that cuts keys should be able to make one. If they have the right blank.

not all Things Remembered locations make keys.....so it depends on the location.

not ANY place will work, because they have different lengths of keys. Thats why I mentioned a Hyundai dealership because you're likely to get a key that works, and is exactly like the original...and going to hyundai, you might can get one with a rubber end on it like the original

YES, any place than has the right blank can cut a working key(most guarantee them to work). If you have to have the rubber end with the "H" on it you have to go to the dealer, if that's not that big of a deal...a locksmith can make one for a fraction of the dealer price.
