Hello,

The MIL light up and I got the P0501 Code. (Speed Sensor)
I use a ScangagueII and the Speed is 0 KM/H at any speed. (was working before)
But the in dash Speed meter work no problem.

I look on the HMAservice web page and did not found were is located the Speed Sensor.
Somebody know?

I do not know if it is related but I change my tire for my summer tire before the MIL light up...

Thank you,
Jonathan Lévesque

It's in the transaxle. This might also help http://www.obd-codes.com/p0501

There's never enough time to do it right, but there's always enough time to do it over.

The cable that go from the dash speed meter, yes, go to the transaxle and that one is working good!

But the speed I got from the computer when I drive is 0 KM/H.
I reed somewhere the 1.6L as the mecanic VSS for the dash speed meter
and a digital VSS for the computer... but where it is?

Thanks
JL

Look under the air filter box. go to hmaservice and search vss.

I look under it and I found something but it don't look like a speed sensor... it only have 2 wire instead of 3.

In the HMAservice site it show it could be at 3 different place... one on the transmission, on the speed sensor (reed switch) or at the front right wheel (ABS I supposed)

BTW I don't have ABS and it is a manual transmission...

Somebody got that problem ?

Thank you,

Jonathan Lévesque

Sorry, I don't know why but I was thinking you had an automatic. Check TSB 00-36-011

I finally get some time to work at it Yesterday.

It was some rush and oxydation on the Reed contact switch behinde the cluster guage.
It is fix not and I have speed reading on the ScanguageII

The car is acting much more smoothly also.

Thanks for your help,
Jonathan Lévesque

jsinton is an unknown quantity at this point
Exactly, the VSS is different from the ABS wheel sensors on this car. It's just like he says: On the back of the instrument cluster. The pic above is a reverse lamp switch.
