Dear all, My elantra 2000 automatic have the engine lights on. I can use the L (low gear) for about 500 meters and then suddenly the gear will dis-engage. I have to turn off the engine and wait 10 minutes or longer, then try to put the stick into 2 or D, sometimes it will drive, but most of the time it won't. I change the ATF already.
Do I Need to replace/rebuild my automatic transmission? Thanks
buy your own OBD2 scanner, they have really come down in price. I got a basic one on amazon for under $20 and it works fine, the dongles that can be used with a smartphone are very popular on our forums, use the search function to find the threads. Good luck Maybe your transmission only needs a solenoid replacement (if you are lucky). Please come back and post the trouble code(s) in Pxxxx format such as P0750.
Well in the UK OBD2 scanners don't work at all on the Lantra. Fortunately I have not had a need of it in 9 years but admit if there ever were a problem it would be useful if Hyundai had made it compatible. As they haven't the only options are to debug a fault the old fashioned way (meter, scope, exchanging parts) or submit to Hyundai's charges for a custom scan.
I buy ELM 327 OBD2 bluetooth scanner already. I cannot find the OBD port in my elantra 2000, I look under the dash behind the left side of the steering column, it seems that someone remove it. Can someone send me a picture where I can see where it exactly located. Tnx. Or it is possible to run without the OBD2 port.
