My check engine light is on and won't pass inspection until its off. The car runs fine. I am getting the P0501. Its a manual tranny. Any info/tips as to possible causes/solutions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

P0501 is for a performance problem with the vehicle speed sensor. Its located low on the firewall side of the trans. Check the plastic gear on the sensor for an hour glass shape. If its worn replace it.

I think that the code could also relate to the speed sensor on the wheel. Check out the steps on www.hmaservice.com
there is a TSB on it
