So I guess I have a late model 08 since I've got the XM radio and accessory jack which makes me wonder if it's worthwhile to spend the 10 bucks a month for the 60 channel all music pack. Anyone keep their XM active? How do you like it? How many commercials are there? I don't know if I should activate my stock XM unit or get an aftermarket unit that's an HD radio (what a gimmick name...) so I can pick up some extra stations for free.

$10/month worth it you think?

If you don't really care what kind fo music is playing than yah keep it. If you only have like 10 artist you care to listen to, than no. The wife kept it because as long as there is music she's happy, plus it gives her teh chance to listen to somethign she never heard before, or forgot and would liek to have it agian.

It is well worth it all of the local terrestrial stations are rubbish, which in most markets they are...  Saves you the frustration of dumbed down playlists and the magic of these corporations creating a rift in the space/time continuum so they can offer you 100 minutes of commercials every hour.  And offers a lot more variety, plus the fact that you can drive across the country and keep the same station on if you wanted.

I was never a fan of XM, always a Sirius guy but now most of the programming is duplicated on the two providers.  I had Sirius for a long time but I ended up buying a radio that lets me play mp3's and connect my ipods, so I no longer really needed it.  I do listen to it quite frequently around the house though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

In the end, just see what all it has to offer and if it makes sense to keep paying up, go for it.  Otherwise cancel. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It's kinda like Satellite TV. Out of 100+ channels, there is only 3-4 that i really watch. It was the same with Satellite radio. I let mine go. I usually just use my Ipod anyway.

Well I dont know about you, I have every preset on mine on a station i listen to.
I love my xm, when the whole 6 FM stations are on commercials i just press xm and BAM! i got music, then i love listening to the CinaMagic station on xm because it plays movie music and you can be entertained while on the road, kinda put the music to your driving. I have sat in a parking lot and watched birds while listening to CinaMagic and just laughed because its almost like the birds were going with it. You can even listen to 4+ stations of comedy for those long trips in the car. You have the news like fox and msnbc. When commercials are on they are short.
I'm just saying that I love it a lot. I have all types of music preset on my xm, from pop, metal, rock, techno, and R&B/Hiphop.
Also they have an amazing station called chill and just plays music that just relaxes you, if you have had a tough day at work or anything else it really relaxes you.

I would wait until just before the 90 days are up. The last offer I rec'd was 3 months for $20.00. That is not bad. I like it. When I go up and down the I5 between LA and SF, it helps the lack of radio stations and fiddling around trying to find a station driving this little beast 80+ MPH.

BTW - I am getting 26-27 MPG at 80+ speeds. Is that normal? I have 5k on it now.

XM is just like any other company. Talk to them. The longer you say you're not interested on the phone, the lower price "their boss" authorized them to give you. It's a sales tactic and ALWAYS works in your favor. $10 is pretty darn low though. Might be worth it, if you like the programming. I never really liked their Classical channel (pretty much the only one I listened to outside of the Techno channel). All of their stuff seems to be on a like 48 hour repeat, just like normal radio. I tired of hearing Beethoven Symphony 5 every other day. All mainstream stuff, but I guess that's what society likes.

Sounds about right. The gearing on these cars is not conducive to good fuel economy above 60mph, quite frankly. The RPMs fly through the roof above that, more so on the manual.

I have Sirius in 4 of my cars and only have XM b/c it came in my Rogue. I think Sirius/ XM are worth EVERY penny you pay for them. Being here in the South (USA), we were only exposed to "junk" music on the radios in my youth. Now we are only exposed to rap (I HATE IT) music and beeps and blips to cover the four letter words. Sat radio has opened me up to MANY, MANY new artists and groups I didn't even know existed.

True that about getting discounts, I fought with XM to give me the discount since I had 4 other Sirius and they are now one and the same company, the finally obliged when I threatened to not renew after the first 3 free months.

I'm sure the $10.00 month figure is not including the new "royalties" fees they are tacking on now (I gotta get mine).

No Regrets

I get XM with my DirecTV. I wouldn't get it in my car if I had to pay, not worth it, IMO. That's why God invented iPods.

Can you clarify that? Are you paying for xm through Direct TV? I have Direct, that's why I am asking.

Yeah, I know about those. I thought he was saying that he was getting free xm in his car since he had it on his direct TV at home.

Hrm... Sounds like a lot of people like it and a lot of people think it' nothing special. Think i'll call XM today and see if I can get a free trial, then I can decide if I like it.

Nope, just on the TV, I think it's kinda dumb to have to buy access in multiple places. If I get it for my tv, As long as I have enough tuners, I should be able to have it anywhere else I want.

Good idea. Also, it depends on how good your local radio stations are, as to whether you will think sat radio is worth it.

I have Dish Network and we get Sirius channels thru 100 (through my tv, sounds AWESOME via my home theatre), really like this during Christmas, all those good old songs.

I do use my iPod daily, but it gets old after a few days then I have to upload new music, the variety of the sat radio is better.

If I remember correctly, there is a cheaper a la carte price. Something like $4.99 gets you a small selection of channels that you choose.

When my subscription runs out I'm not renewing it. I'll just keep the ipod full, plays just as well, and I actually hear more different songs on it. I think xm plays too many of the same songs, I keep a better, larger collection on my ipod, plus they keep raising the price, where it's getting right up there now.
