Hey,

So I got an Accent Sedan GLS 09, base. Well sort of base, it came with bluetooth, and XM/CD Audio System.

So other than those two "comfort"/"luxury" features, everything else is Manual. Side mirrors, windows, seats, locks not even a rear wiper.

I'd love to get my hands dirty and do some one by one upgrades whenever I've saved enough. I've done a few readings here and there, haven't owned the car for more than 3 months, so not much knowledge has been acquired yet. But I thought i'll ask and see if i'm on the right track here etc.

My plan is to start off with power windows, locks and side view mirrors (heated side view mirrors is a plus but depends on price difference.) So I looked at the fuse boxes and found in the guide that there are spots for these options, so this means this car is capable. (something which I didn't doubt but since being a newbie, being thorough is best).

First thing I figured out, is that the door interior paneling has to be changed to ones that has support for the power buttons. I found many kits online to convert manual windows to automatic, so I guess i've got narrow them down and see if there is compatibility issues.

Secondly, Power locks and remote trunk unlock and alarm system.

Thirdly, I couldn't find much in terms of powered and heated side view mirrors, so any help/info in that regards would be appreciated.

Lastly, (and leastly), Power seats, remote starters. If I had to choose, it'll be the remote starter, then power seats would be last. I have a feeling power seats are a bigger job than just replacing tracks.. or I might be wrong. Also cruise control and steering wheel controls and a navi system.

So, with all that said and done, here are some questions..

1) How do I know what are my options? What is compatible or not? what will fit or not? or what they even look like. I know I have to choose a panel (trim?) with power windows. But as you can see in this link I get no illustrations or photos. Should I simply trust them? Also what about pricing? Do I have other choices? OEM? Aftermarket? is there such thing as aftermarket when it comes to doors?

2) That site does not have alarm systems or remote lock/unlock systems. This means I have to look else where. I don't mind some recommendation as to what are good brands etc.. But i'd like to know what to look for in such systems. Range is on top of the list, then wether the system honks/beeps flash lights, light on delay, panic, how loud is the alarm and what kind of noise it makes.

3) I belive the steps in the install would be, remove current paneling, place all the wiring I need, even though rear door paneling is not going to change, I'll just make the wires and feed them into the door, then somehow keep them from snaking themselves out of the door. Then when it comes time for rear door panel change, I have all the wires I need (power locks and power windows).. Also run a wire all the way back to the trunk from remote trunk open, then install actuator.

4) Will I have to completely remove the cable and manual trigger for the trunk? Or can that and the electronic co-exist? Just incase battery dies (i'm not expecting it for such a new car though) or something goes wrong electrically, I can do it manually.

5) If side mirrors are to be changed later in the game, would the entire paneling have to be removed? Or just the part between the lever and the door. I'd like to know if I'm better off waiting till I get all the parts then do the installation or can it be done in steps, and still be able to have a car to drive around in between installs.

I'm not expecting a step by step instruction list, just maybe pointers to where I can read and research, as we all know not everything on the internet is dependable. Also I'd like to hear from experts and if anyone actually attempted such a project.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't bother spending the money on door panels. I'm intending to just add switches to the existing door for power windows and locks, no reason to replace the door skins as for as i'm concerned. Here's a good source for power window and locks, alarms...etc http://www.a1electric.com/index.htm

a1 electrics will also sell you poppers so you can add remote trunk release functions.

If you're going to do remote start you'll have to do it yourself generally. It isn't normally allowed to put a remote start on a manual transmission vehicle. The only company I know of that makes kits designed for a manual tranny is compustar.

When you do electric heated mirrors you can wire your heat part of the mirror to the same fuse section that does your rear window defrost so that when you switch on your defrost it does your mirrors too.

Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

My 2006 GLS sedan has power heated mirrors from the factory...  They quit offering that option, now they're simply power mirrors.  If you can track down a wrecked '06 with the Premium Sport package, you could yank the mirrors off of it...  Otherwise, you can search for OEM replacement parts for an '06.

Not sure how or where you're going to mount up the switch for the mirrors though, the armrest does not extend far enough on non-power equipped models.

Make sure you have the proper gauge wiring and any relays it may need -- the heated mirrors consume a lot of current.

You can buy power heated mirrors for an 06 accent from Kool vue and just use those. http://www.kool-vue.com/

As hoosieraccent said.. there really is no place to put in switches for power mirrors, power windows and locks. Here is a photo of the door panel. The only place I see that can hold extra buttons are the two half-circles which I intend to use for fog-lights and trunk release push switch.. (kinda don't like the manual lever)

Also after taking a good look at the exterior of the car there is really no place for a rear window wiper so I guess that is out.

@hoosieraccent: Thanks for the info. If the 2006 Accents mirrors fit nicely into the 2009.. i might look into it.

Oh well.. time for research and lots of reading.

Heated mirror's are on 07's too. So that might make it a little easier to find since now you have 2 years.
