Hi

I have a problem, on my Lantra 1996 (really, engine G4GM is 1995 made) check engine lamp lite on. Our hyundai dealers doesn't know which tester is needed to read the error code on this car. Can anybody help me find a tool to read the engine error code?

I have had no luck with finding any scanner to read the diagnostic socket on mine either (2000 Lantra). Pre 2001 were not OBD2 compliant and were pretty much custom arrangements so you are stuck with the dealer who should be able to help but will charge to read the codes; maybe ask a different dealer?
On my Lantra, I don't even seem to have an engine check light; not on the dash and not in the manual. Did it used to light up when you turned the ignition on?

Yes, it lights up for 2-3 seconds after ignition switch is on but before engine start. When engine starts, CE lamp lights up constantly, but if I run at speed about 120 km/h at 5-th gear CE is switching off and lighting again if I run slowly... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/innocent.gif)

I found the attached article which may work for your car. The fault codes will be flashed out through the MIL light if it works; let me know.

I know that; I thought it may work the same. Worth a try at least. I would try it myself but the UK version does not have a MIL/CEL light.
