Hello everyone,

I just bought a 2003 Accent with 15,000 Miles on it. It's been sitting for a long time... Still in GREAT condition. I'm going to change the oil, but I use FRAM Oil filters (have been since 1999) I never knew that they were bad for you car. So What type of filter is the best Price/Quality? Also, I always replace my stock filters with K&N's, I just saw the cold air intake by K&N (57-0520). Is there a noticeable difference between the CAI and just the replacement filter? THis is my first Hyundai, is there anything else I need to know? Recommendations for maintenance. I plan on tinting the windows, air filter replacement and maybe a quiet performance exhaust (later down the road). Other than that, this is just my commuter car. Thank you in advance for the responses.

Unless you're in love with K&N you can save $100+ and get a short ram off ebay. You won't get the dryer hose and wire tie though. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

I have been using K&N oil filters though, the 1 inch hex makes removal a snap.

Go to the dealer and buy factory filters, The oil filter is under very high pressure cold and it must have a check valve in it to prevent oil draining back into the pan.

You are correct about the high pressure at start-up & check valve, but I have to disagree about going to the dealer for a filter. Hyundai has filters made for them by someone else. There's only a hand-full of companies that make oil filters.

I couldn't find the spec's for a hyundai filter, but I'm guessing you can get an "as good" or better filter at any parts store.

I've always used Purolator oil filters.

Thanks for the info. I just changed the oil a little while ago. I used a Fram filter, will do for now. I was going to use a bosch, but the store was out of them (military exchange). I'm going to start using bosch for now on, from what I understand, is that purolator makes bosch? Also can you give me a link to the K&N cold air intake alternative? Not too sure on what it entails. If I can get the same performance, then I'll use the alternative.
**Something new, I notice that when I'm driving, the shift from 1st to 2nd is very dramatic, almost like a manual transmission. Is this normal? The car only has 15K miles.

I found this helpful about oil filters http://www.ask.com/bar?q=companies+that+ma...p=1256869290066

As far as a CAI/SR. I made my own with parts from Auotzone. Grand total $50.
