Factory Dvd Player Audio Problem Options

I recently purchased a 2007 Santa Fe Limited. It has a factory DVD unit. This unit was never used by the previous owner. The wireless headphones and the remote are new in the box. When I put a DVD in the DVD player you cannot hear any audio. I turned the volume up to MAX. I could then hear the movie but it was still really quiet. The wireless headphones do not work. I hear static when I turn them to max. No actual language comes out. I know that I am doing everything right because I can actually hear language from the car speakers, the problem is I have to turn the volume to MAX to hear anything. I called about buying a new DVD player and the dealership said it was over $700 just for the part. Anyone have any suggestions or ever hear of this before?
