hi evimarn,
i took delivery of my i30 on 29th May 2009. everything was fine. 4 days later, my remote control would not work. exactly how you have described.
contacted the dealer who said to take the car in, they had it all day and when i went to pick it up, they said i needed a new remote.
got 2 new remoted, they programmed them, all working fine. following day, same again. contacted dealer again who said it was a probably a fault with the receiver in the car itself. ordered a new one but in the mean time, they disabled the remote all together as they said one day i might lock it and it might not unlock so i would be locked out, yes can open with key but alarm would go off that way. took 2 weeks for the receiver to arrive. got it fitted and still the same problem.
the car is now 4 n half months old and they only discovered the actuall problem 2 weeks ago.
inside the ignition barrel there is a chip. this chip recognises that the key has been taken out and allows the remote control to work.
the dealer "lubriacted" the chip and it worked for 2 days then back to normal. the dealer showed me how to get it to work.
put key back in ignition, "jiggle" the key about (dont be too light but dont be very heavy handed), take key out and it should work.
after hyundia head office technical finally authorised a replacement chip, i got a fone call from customer services.
Them =we are contacting you regarding the transmitter chip you have ordered. The order was place with the parts supplier on Fri 9th Oct, on Mon 12th Oct, the parts supplier rejected the parts request. We then re-ordered the part on Tues 13th Oct, they rejected it again on Wed 14th Oct."
my = how can they reject a request from the actual maker of the car?
them = we can not answer that at this time
my = silly question, you have paid your bill?
them = ofc we have. we are looking into and will let you know in due course.
Got another phone call yesterday (thurs 22nd oct)
them = We are still trying to get the part for you. we are hoping to have it by the end of next week. we will contact you when it arrives.
me = so the parts supplier have accepted the request?
them = not yet but they will
me = how can you be sure?
them = my manager is dealing with and he will get it done
me = ok i expect a phone call by Fri 30th saying the part is here and i need to take my car into the dealer. if i get a phone call saying the part isnt here or the parts supplier still is not releasing the part, then i appologise in advance to who ever phones me as i wil not be a happy bunny.
If i were you, i would contact your dealer and demand they order a new chip straight away. you will be waiting ages for it so the quicker you order it, the quicker you will get the problem sorted.
alternativly, have you paid for the car in full or got it on finance and also, how old is it? if you paid in full for it and it is only a few months old, you can reject the car and request a new one. new ones are currently taking 4 months to arrive. If like me, you have it on finance (thought hyundia finance), then its a bit more difficult to reject the car. the finance department have to accept the rejection first, then the dealer has to accept it then the new car can be ordered, i was told it could take upto 3 months for both parties to accept the rejection. that is about 7 months for a replacement car..
hopefully u have paid in full for it. (IMG:

please let me know how you get on. would love to hear what they tell you as they keep saying to me "we have had no other problems of this sort". just wonder if they have or not.
good luck,
Amanda
