Not necessarily true. Dealers and maintainence want you to believe that. Rear struts don't generally need to be "aligned", unless the rest of the suspension is worn out too.
I replaced my struts (front and rear) last year and didn't have an alignment. They were about $200 w/shipping, KYBs. Of course, I had to put them in, which is a PITA.
I also bought new tires at the same time. After 25K there's no abnormal wear, or any untoward handling, etc. People wind up getting way too many alignments in my view.
