Does anyone else have a tow hitch on their Accent? I do. I use my Accent for everything. Mostly I just tow a small trailer to Menards for drywall and such. But I also tow my small fishing boat (14' smokercraft Big Fisherman) to the lake. I pull down the freeway at 60mph no sweat. A little extra room out front and its fine. The boat ramps can get pretty steep, so I use the hand brake to allow my to hit the gas/clutch with outsliding back into the drink.
Any opinions about using synthetic oil in the manual trans? Will this help my tiny trans stand up better to towing? I don't mind the expense since it will only be changed a couple times in the cars lifetime.
I would highly recommend you never tell your dealership or Hyundai Corp about your towing habits, as the Accent is not rated for towing anything other than a bike rack. Sure, you could probably tow a semi-trailer behind your Accent, but that doesn't mean you should.
On a semi-related note, I changed the automatic tranny fluid in my car at 25,000 miles to Dextron III and it made a WORLD of a difference. The car now flies everywhere very smoothly. When I drained the tranny fluid it was a terrible thick black sludge, not the nice clearish pink of the Dextron III I put it. I suspect this has a lot to do with the fact that it's the original fluid from the manufacturer, and therefore was full of all the metal shavings and whatnot of the transmission first being worn-in.
Considering how cheap tranny fluid is ($9), I'll probably change it every 25,000.
