I have a 93 Hyundai Excel ( Carby variant). The vehicle recently underwent a piston rings and seal replacement. The vehicle ran well for a month or so but now, I'm experiencing acceleration problem when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. I can experience a minor jerk when shifting gears and it now takes 4000 rpms as compared to the usual 2500 rpms to shift gears. It's a four speed manual. What could be the problem? I'm in Pakistan.

So it's a manual? There's not much to go wrong in a manual. Sounds to me like your clutch is wearing out.

Many thanks for the response. That's exactly one of the mechanics told me. The other one advised to replace the gear oil. I'll have the clutch plate replaced first thing in the morning and then report my findings on this thread. Thanks again.

Problem solved! In addition to the clutch plate, the tappets were re-adjusted and the car has returned to its former glory and is running like a dream. Thaks again for the help.

I have a 1992 Excel LS carbed version and ever since I have owned it it has jumped, even had it checked by the Hyundai dealership...no fault found it was after the engine broke an exhaust rocker shaft that I replaced the distributor with a second hand unit from an auto wrecker that the problem stopped, the only thing that I noted was that the rotor was stiff when reversing the direction by hand, the replacement was free and moved easily, it could be the mechanical advance was gummed up but I have not attempted to dismantle the dizzy to see what the minor problem is, so there is something for you to have a look at, the other more obvious problem could be the igniter, they are a real pain as they tend to do funny things and can throw you off track, I note the igniter is the type that can be easily replaced, if you remove the dizzy it does not have a locating pin and you need to determine TDC on no. 1 before refitting to get the timing settled, I use a stobe light to get the final timing set.

Food for thought! I'll have it checked just to be on the safe side. So far so good. No problem reported after getting the tappets re-adjusted and the clutch plate replaced.
