We have a 2.2 CRDI (2009) and we are very happy with it.
The 2.2 does make more engine noise than the 2.7, but is to be expected being a diesel. We really only notice it when idling or accelerating, once moving along you really dont notice it.
The diesel has more torque than the 2.7 and has no issues with hills or towing, but there is slight turbo lag. It is powerful and overall very smooth. The diesel is also matched to a 5 speed auto, where I think the 2.7 often comes with a 4 speed auto.
The big difference is at the pump, we get on average 9-10 litres per 100km in city driving. The 2.7 would be lucky to get 13-14 litres per 100km around town. A considerable saving.
Whatever you choose, I'm sure you will be satisfied.
