First of all, hello to everyone here. My name is Ian, and I am new to these forums and new to Hyundai. I just purchased a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0L and want to do some minor (and cheap) mods to get it as close to 300HP as possible... preferrably to the rear wheels. What is everyone's advice on doing this?

I've never owned a car with a turbo before, and don't know much about them. Is there a way to increase the boost on the stock turbo, i.e. by flashing the computer or changing the size of something to increase airflow? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this stuff. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Just remember that you run the risk of voiding your warranty when you do stuff like that. Not to mention increase the likelihood of blowing your motor.

You'll void your powertrain warranty as well!

Unless you do the turbo mods through the dealership.

Some dealerships, not sure of Hyundai, but Honda did....offer performance mods and if you purchased and installed it through the dealership, they will warranty it.

Also when i had my Dodge SRT-4, they offered 3 different stage turbos you can upgrade it to. It came with i believe, if my memory serves me correct 230Hp and 252 torque. They offered Stage 1, 2 and 3 kits to upgrade to, that brought it up to over 300HP with the stage 3 kit. My Dodge dealership offered them and warranteed them if it was done through them. I had the option to upgrade to it when i bought the car, if i wanted to dish the extra $3g's i believe they were asking...can't remember right now, they would have installed it and had it ready when i picked up the car brand new, or i could install it later on if i wanted to. But because i bought the SRT-4 when it first came out, the stage 3 wasn't available just yet. So i was gonna wait....the car was crap and had problems, i ended up getting rid of it after a year so i didn't bother with the upgrade kit.

Sometimes its worth paying the extra $$$ to have peace of mind. Then you can launch and blow whatever you want and it will be warranteed.

Not sure if Hyundai offers anything like this.

So far the best consensus is that you'll have to swap your turbocharger and do a bunch of supporting mods (intake, exhaust, fuel/programming) to break the 300 wheel horsepower mark.

Not a cheap undertaking, I'd suggest giving it some time and waiting for more development.

If you wait until next year the dealers are going to have a computer update the will bring the HP to 300 on the 2.0 Genesis (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

This was told to me by my Hyundai dealer, They also have their own race team that races two Genesis coupes, so I would think they would be the one of the first to know if any new updates are coming !.

I don't believe your dealer.

Several reputable shops have done major work on the 2.0 and none of them have gotten over 300 whp without a turbo swap, even the shops that have done major computer tuning.
I don't mean to speak down to you, but most dealership staff know less about the cars they sell than your typical enthusiast and they don't mind perpetuating un-confirmed rumors.

Your not going to blow a motor unless its not properly tuned.Airflow, timing, fuel are all a simple equation, where as what you do to one, effects the other.More boost = more air = more fuel. Not really that complex. While it definitly would void warrentys, freaking people out about blowing a engine is just ignorent.Although its understandable cause you hyundai guys are real new to turbos.
As for a computer bringing you to 300 hp, unless it changes all of the above said, thats a big lie.

Acadian,

I know you took a lot of flack...but I understand why you would want to buy a 2.0 and supe it up.

I remember when I was interested in buying a VR6 Jetta about 10 years ago. Stock out the box the 2.8L VR6 was faster than the base model 1.8L Turbp models. However, with just a few mods (chip, exhaust) the 1.8T would easily smoke a VR6.

Apparently the 2.0 was designed with the tuner crowd in mind, however manufacturers are still a little slow in getting the products out. My advice to you is be patient, do your research, and then buy the best mods when they become available.

Beyond redline put a window in their block at 360ish wheel.
Then their second engine made 440 or so before the car caught fire due to mysterious, currently unexplained causes. Not sure if it had stock internals or not.

I think that without a very very precise tune, the limits are pretty low, but if your tune is good enough you can probably safely run 400 wheel hp.

As I said, its all about the tune. Not to say you could make a 800hp tiburon on stock internals..lol. But its all basic physics and math when you boil it down. Unfortunatly, most people don't really grasp how everything works when they mess with boost and fuel...then they blow their engine and cry that it wasn't reliable.
I see way more potential in the turbo 2 liter tib than the gt. Turbo cars respond much better to bolt ons than a n/a 6 cylinder. Think about it. You already have a car designed to accept increased (forced) air flow. You just need to raise the boost and compensate for the increase with fuel, spark and other components (clutch, tranny, brakes...ect). I can't wait to run a moded turbo tiburon. So far, I ran a new gt and I was not impressed to say the least. especially with a 30k price tag.
Bottom line, get a boost controller, bigger injectors and a piggy back system to control the fuel (safc or equivelent).

They do NOT. Any Mods that increas hp could void warranty. Mopar Performance is a whole other animal. Untill Hyundai has engine upgrades avalible(turbos ect.) if you blow it up....your problem. You see it wouldn't be Hyundai's fault your engine blew because of some huge turbo or whatever else you do to that engine.

Any mods u do will void warranty. They are real strict with that. Cheap upgrades are blow off valve and regulator ut u gotta be careful with the regulator. Too much boost will blow ur engine quick. I think they r only rated for 16psi stock

You have no idea what you are saying. There isnt such thing as a "psi limit" on any forced induction car. You need to read what a tune is and understand about air velocity/density/physics.Air flow at a given psi differs depending on the turbo. Meaning 16psi on a 16g is flowing no where near what 16 psi on a stock genesis turbo. You should read about stuff before posting answers on a forum dude.

just go in there, figure out how to disconnect the waste gate and see how high you can go before the computer catches on. Then when it blows put it all back to normal and remove all fingerprints. Take it to the dealer and act very ignorant, better yet have your mom take it in and say it stopped running on her way to bingo.
