I am planning on replacing my fron shocks (Terracan 2.9 cdri - 2004), since its around 100k kms and still using the original ones, which have proved to be very good.

Yesterday I called the Hyundai dealer and asked for them, and they do have them but are quite expensive ($US110 each), so I was thinking about OEM aftermarket.

Locally, I can find KYB, Monroe and Gabriel shocks. Probably Rancho. Right now I have an offer for KYB for around US$27 each whinch sounds very reasonable.

Any thoughts?

Thanx

Hey, I wonder if you manage to change your front shocks, because mine started to leak now. What is good replacements to the original shocks? my teracac has 157km on the clock.

I'd get the KYBs just because they're made in Japan, as opposed to Monroe and Gabriel which are made in the US. I guess Monroe is ok, I thought Gabriel is cheesy. I've got KYBs on my Elantra now, and they seem pretty good after 17k miles. Never seen any Ranchos.

I finally replaced them with Monroe Gas Magnum (fronts). Only the left one was "soft" but with no leaks. My Terry had 106,000 kms but our roads are not in perfect contidion and I do some off roading. The monroes are a bit harder than the original ones, but feel very sturdy and do the work. I got them for about one fifth of the cost of the original ones.

So, it is really advisable that you replace the front shocks as a pair rather than only one which in my case had already started
leaking oil? oh btw my previous post should read 157k km.

Absolutely. Don't just change one, not a good idea.

Have you modified your mounts? I enquired about monroe gas magnum but they have different mounting. The one that may fit is the monroe sens a trac mono tube. Have anybody use it? what about kyb mono tube? any ideas about their performance?
I experience a lot of body roll when cornering and its scary.
