I have an 09 GLS and I notice that it has red courtesy-light lenses at the bottom of the front driver and passenger doors, but they don't light up. I'm assuming that at the GLS trim level, that's normal. How difficult is it to get those lights working? Any chance there's already a wired up recepticle in the door, waiting for a bulb or does it require wiring in a whole light fixture?
Thanks.

Do not open it from the outside...you will definitely break it. It attached by a screw from the inside. Best way to check it is by taking off the door panel.

Thanks all for the input. I may pop the door panel off and check it out.

Thanks. they should light up bright... i also have a 09 GLS and it work great at nights stepping in and out of the Santy.. it's bright enough if you drop you keys on the way out, you could find them on the ground without a problem.

QUOTE (grobie @ Aug 27 2009, 08:18 AM) Thanks all for the input. I may pop the door panel off and check it out. Do NOT do this yourself. If you break something, you will be responsible. Your bulbs are warranted for the first 12 months of ownership. If neither door is working, it sounds like a wiring problem. what are the odds of both bulbs being bad. Of course, the factory could have forgotten to install them. Never the less, a warranty problem. I enjoy doing my own work, but when there is a possibility of breaking something, I prefer to pass the risk to the dealer. David <><

Perhaps Hyundai has cheapened their new products by just using a reflector lense in each door. Most likely there is something wrong with yours. These door lights are meant as a warning to other drivers. However, there are some vehicles with just reflectors in the doors but I can't imagine Hyundai dropping safety lighting for cheap reflectors. But..............one can never second guess the auto manufacturing world. David <><

QUOTE (Alfons @ Oct 26 2009, 04:48 AM) My wife's 07 SF had the same problem, the courtesy lights in the rear turned on when any doors were opened, but the front lights stayed off. There was a "wiring harness kit" that was installed under warranty to turn on the "map lights" to fix the problem. This subject has to do with the front doors and their Red Safety Lights. Not the overhead courtesy lights. The courtesy lights have been discussed in detail on another thread. The same can be said for things like the auto headlight circuit standard on the US Ltd model and not available on the Canadian model. I'm not sure it's the cost to add it but more what it adds to the list price of the vehicle. My thoughts are that Hyundai trys to price the vehicle such that it competes with the likes of the Escape or Torrent or whatever but has to come in slightly less in price. Leaving a 10 dollar light kit out may get them there without a lot of people noticing. In my 02 GLS (top line in Canada at the time), climate control or power seats were not available. They would add to the cost of the vehicle and likely push it over the price point they were looking at. Back then Hyundai had to work harder to sell cars so price was important. Today, with the US and CDN dollar closer to par, I'm not seeing a lot of differences between the US and Canadian vehicles. Just my thoughts, Congo

QUOTE (lovemysantafe @ Oct 27 2009, 02:35 PM) Canadian first-generation Santa Fe's did not come with the door warning lights, either and had the lens covered. The strange thing was that all the wiring was in the door panel. I know of a few people who hooked it up to work. It isn't too difficult to add incadescent bulb sockets to various places. I have done it to the santa in various places including my taillight mod and rear bumper from reflector to lighted unit mod. It would be a piece of cake for the Santa Fe doors since the wiring is already there. I have also added additional taillights to my 08 Sebring, similiar to what I did to the Santa Fe. David <><

I finally hooked up my rear fog lights (in the bumper) to behave as such, complete with OEM switch and circuit programming. As far as I know, I'm the only one to have done this kind of mod to the rear fog lights. Most who modify them make them running/brake lights but I wanted something more unique.
