Just got an 09 Sonata with a USB hookup. Tried to hookup my iPod via the USB cable provided with the iPod. Get a message on radio "USB port empty". I brought it up at the dealership today and one of the sales people took their iPod, which was just like mine, and hooked it up the same way and it worked. Any ideas on what the problem is? iPod works fine aside from this issue.

How old is your Ipod or how new is it? I think some older or newer ones can't be recognized. All Ipods look pretty identical so thats about the only think I could think of.

You can't use the cable that came with the iPod. You must use the cable available through Hyundai. As far as I have heard, that is the only way the iPod and stereo will communicate properly.

Part number is 08620-2L000. It plugs into both USB and Aux and it uses the iPod's line outs for better sound quality. It fully integrates it. You can get it at your local dealer. Just ask for a Hyundai iPod cable and they should give it to you. You could also give them this part number and they can give it to you as well. There is even a TSB on this issue.

Apparently there is a new iPod cable for Kia and Hyundai. It's now P8620-00000. It supposedly fixes a few issues.

When I bought my 09 sonata, I got the usb cable thru hyundai when I bought it. Sorry I didn't read your post clearly. Yea the Ipod cable doesn't work. The hyundai one connects to aux jack and usb at the same time.

I have had my 2009 for over a year now and never had any stereo problems until yesterday. I was playing MP3s off my USB drive when it suddenly cut over to FM. I selected back to AUX and the screen just said Reading USB... and was stuck there. I turned radio off and on with no effect. I tried another flash drive and same thing. I then parked and was inside a business for an hour and when I came out everything worked. Maybe some capacitor needed to uncharge itself. Anyway just thought I'd throw it out there and i'll be on the lookout for other strange behaviors.

P8620-00000 is this really the new part # that replaces P08620-2L000? Dealer does not have P8620-00000 listed.

I think thats a Kia part number. The Kia and Hyundai cables are the same. P8620-00000 is a Kia part number. The Hyundai cable should work fine.
