I can't seem to figure out if something is wrong with my interior lights. (2008 Accent hatchback)

They wont' ever turn off even when driving. Both the map lights, and rear roof light.
When we first got it, the lights would slowly dimm off as we got into the car, shut the doors
and started the car. But now, they just stay on.
If I hit the door switch (between the map lights), then the the lights stay off, even when the doors
are opened.

The rear roof light is the same, the only way to get it off is to switch to the "off" position.

Do I have an electrical problem maybe? or am I missing something else?

Thanks

Is the door ajar light constantly lit? If it is, that could be one of the pin switches in the door jamb. Otherwise I'm thinking you have a problem with the body control module, that is what tells the lights to turn on/fade off depending on the input from the door switches/keyless entry/etc.

Probably best to check with the dealer at this point.

The door ajar light is off when all doors are closed and is on when the door is open. So that seems to be working normal.
I'll drop by the dealership and see if they can help.

Thanks for the response.

It is.
I do have an aftermarket stereo installed. Just the head unit.
Do you think I could have damaged something behind the stereo that would
cause the problem with the lights?
I just can't imagine that any wires to do with the interior lights would be behind the dash
there, but you never know.

I have an appointment on Monday with the dealer, I'll see what they say.

I dont think there's anything around there that deals with the interior lights.
Did you splice your wires for the install?

Good luck with the dealer. When I went in with the problem of my car not starting they immediately told me that they cant cover warranty issues withthe electrical system because of my headlights and the radio...(so they say).

If could just be a senosr somewhere

Glad to hear that.
Yeah, the wiring job should be okay as it was properly crimped, but once I pushed the deck in
you never really know if anything gets binded or bent funny.

I checked the fuses, nothing was blown. AFAIK.
But also noticed my glovebox light wasnt' working. Could be unrelated.
I'm guesing its just a computer chip, or sensor like you said.
Hopefully the dealer has good news. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Did you use a wiring harness adapter or did you cut the plug off the car's wiring harness and wire your radio in directly?  If you can go back to OEM that would tell you if the problem was caused by your aftermarket radio.

Since the glove box light is out (and that ties into the headlights being on) does the rest of your interior illumination work properly?

Got the car back from the dealer today.
Interior lights fixed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

Turned out to be some kind of bent, broken wire.
But I didn't get a chance to ask where.

They never fixed my glove box light, as they told me I didn't have one.
LOL, I had to physically go out and show the guy.
I will probably just try and fix this one myself. Maybe its just a bad bulb.
Then they just pushed me out the door, so I left. My warranty paperwork will come in the mail.

Anyway, glad to have the dimming working again. Any clue where this might have been?
They said it wasn't my aftermarked stereo since it would have voided any warranty.

Cheers,

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap.gif)  Awesome that they fixed you! But boo that they rushed you off without fixing the glove box light. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif)

Although I think that one would be pretty straightforward to troubleshoot.  Do try the bulb first.  Aside from that, it's either not getting voltage from the headlight circuit, the switch is faulty, or there is a bad ground.
