I own a 2005 CRTDCDX it has covered 29000 miles, there is a tinny/metal rattle when accelarating in lower gears 1500 and 2000 rpm. The dealer suggests its clutch plate vibration, has anyone suffered a similiar problem and if so was it covered by the warranty.

I get a similar rattle in the same model. Dealer suggests I take it in when it is doing it, which is impossible if it is so intermittent. I also think clutch plate rattle but I'll just put up with it.
If it breaks I hope it covered by the warranty. 42 000 miles on mine, by the way

Hi deano64 and thompo
I am a Tucson owner and suggest that you test it out to see whether there is any rattle with the clutch depressed? If there is it isn't the clutch. Over on www.hyundaiownersclub.com we have an experienced Hyundai tecnician who may be able to help.
If it is the clutch thrust race or even one of the clutch prongs neither of you will get it done under warranty as unfortunately clutches are only covered for the first 2 years (It states this in the owners manual) and unless you do a diy then it could be expensive in a Hyundai dealership- better to diy or use a garage locally to you who you can trust to do the job properly and then you could always supply them with the part you bought on ebay or similar- at hyowners Admin gets discount off of parts for forum members. and you will find this is an active forum with quite a few tucson owners many who tow caravans too.
I'm not saying this forum isnt helpfull because as you can see I have been using it since I bought my first Tucson in 2004 and now I am on my 2nd one and only changed to get the limited model (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hope someone comes to your aid soon as I am definitely not a teccy type.

Cheers

Itza

OK Thanks. Next time I hear it, I'll depress the clutch pedal and see if it goes away. I can often hear a rattle when the clutch pedal is not depressed and car is at standstill. A quick blip of the throttle and the rattle goes.
Don't know whether its my imagination, but engine does seem noisier when accelerating - especially between 2000 and 3000 revs and sounds as though I'm changing up gear too early and putting strain on the engine. It's done 42000 miles, been regularly serviced by Hyundai and only noticed it recently. Of course you then start listening for things and they probably sound louder than they actually are.

Thanks

This is a known issue on 5 speed Euro III engines, get your dealer to carry out the technical service bulletin for your vehicle, if they want to know what number, tell them TSB HGE07-53-P010-JM01

OK Thanks. I'll give them a call and book it in. They were unaware of any issues last time I mentioned it.

This tinny rattle you hear might be a loose heat shield around an exhaust system part, like a catalytic converter or an exhaust pipe. Before you do anything like transmission work, slide under the car and tap on the heat shields.

Fixing this sure beats tearing into the transaxle!

It is something to do with the clutch. If I press the clutch in, the rattle goes.
As its not a warranty item, and doesn't seem to affect the driving or performance, I'll just keep an eye on it
