Hey everybody!

This has been an intermittent problem. When I start the car those two lights will stay on, but when I turn off the car, turn it back on again, then start driving then the lights will stay off. Of course, this starts to happen right when I got out of the 60,000 warranty.

Has anyone had this happen to them? I go to the dealer tomorrow for the 60K service.

Thanks!!!!!

Seen this here somewhere before. It came up as being a faulty brake light switch IIRC.

My Sonata had a similar problem; it was caused by a stop light bulb that was shorted as well as the plug that connects to the brake light switch, which was inserted wrong. My high-mounted brake light was also on constantly, so the cruise refused to engage.

If it is a defective Stop Switch Dude, it might be covered for free under the TSB campaign. I just had a defective

Seatbelt clip that made the Air Bag system inoperative. Still have less than 20,000 miles on the LX.

I wanted to take a drive to Three Rivers & Sequoia National park. I saw Dateline NBC this Week

about all the Pot being grown in the National Parks. The Migrant Pot farmers are shooting people who wander into their

Camp, and much of the land is Booby trapped. We love California! How much was the 60K service? I was just told my

30K service will be $211 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/trophy.gif)

Hey, that used to be my back yard!! I lived about 45 mins from Three Rivers & Sequoia & Kings Canyon Nat'l Park! You might remember there was a big scandal recently about some almonds(?) that came from Three Rivers; that's the same place.

I haven't gotten to look at the manual just yet but I'm guessing the 60K is way more comprehensive than the 30K... the dealers in my immediate area (Merced Hyundai, Central Valley Hyundai - Modesto, and Tracy Hyundai) quoted $549. Merced Hyundai had a $50 off coupon and I'm taking advantage of it!!!

I'll take this to the dealer and see what he says, in the meantime, anyone else please feel free to chime in! Thanks everybody!

I know the 30K Service only includes an Oil Change, Transmission Service, and Inspections.

With these modern Cars they can just read the code, and hopefully fix it for little to no charge.

It sounds like you are going to keep the Sonata for the 10 Year Warranty so doing this service

sounds about right. I know I have no plans for a new Car, and the Sonata is doing great. Good luck!

Hey again everybody!!

wymi and Dennis The Mennis were spot on with the problem! I wrote that in the early bird drop off envelope and that's exactly what it was.

From the invoice, here's what the 60K service did

Changed engine oil and filter
Replaced cabin air filter
Replaced engine air filter
Replaced wiper blades
Performed transmission service
Performed cooling system service
Balanced and rotated tires
Multipoint inspection
Replaced Spark Plugs
Replaced Surge Tank Gaskets
Retorqued suspension system components

The quote was $399 (including a coupon)... HOWEVER they quoted me the 4-cyl price (I have a V6). The V6 was supposed to be $100 more. It WAS his mistake. After a bit of haggling, I was willing to let him eat half the difference and ended up paying $449 vs. $499.

WARNING!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/offtopic.gif) WARNING!!!

Something very tragic happened while I was waiting for a co-worker to pick me up. There was a train-vs-pedestrian accident that happened on the railroad tracks very close to the dealership!!!! Speculation is rampant that this was a suicide. The victim was from Atwater, about 10 mins north of Merced along Highway 99. I heard the train honking longer and longer but didn't think anything of it because I live near railroad tracks myself. Anyway you can check out the article here:

It's the swith behind the brake petal!! Happened on my 06 i went the the dealership and bought the switch for about 20 bucks or less and fixed it myself!! I had 61,000 miles on it when it happened to my car. It's really not that hard to fix. I was quoted like 85 bucks by my dealer to have it fixed. You will probably find that your brake lights are either staying on or not working all the time. You really need to have this fixed asap and Hyundai needs to issue a recall on this problem, i have read several posts concerning this matter. Good Luck!!!

I thought they did quite a while back, if you can call a TSB a recall? Oh this is just an adjustment.

If its not your brake stop switch then its your passenger seat.I had to have both done on my 06,seat was a while back and it solved the problem then after the lights came back it

was my switch that was faulty and at the time there was no recall but my service manager said they would replace for free but didn't want to waste my time at the dealer so i

bought, replaced, and adjusted it myself its not a hard thing to do and a very inexpensive part.Either way both are to be replaced or fixed for free.

Yes, but we are not speaking of the Passenger Airbag/OCS problem that has plagued Hyundai.

Why didn't you let them do the Stop Switch for you? Did you own your whole fleet of other Cars back then?

Needed my car that day and they didn't have any openings and wanted it for the whole day and wouldn't get it back till the next day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) . So it was well worth $13 bucks and 20

minutes of my time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

+1; if only I'd known a shorted bulb could cause that problem, I would have fixed it myself and saved some $$$
