Electric Folding Mirrors With Oem Switch Installed Options

Hi Guys ,

Finally after almost a month that I got the parts I installed them . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

My mirrors were already manually foldable ,so I just needed to convert them to electric folding .

There are shops which does this for considerable amount of money (let's around 300) and some of them don't even do the wiring they just take your mirrors and

fit them with electric actuators which I don't know they took from what kind of car ,they don't fit right and they break very easily as I asked around .and their work

is rubbish anyways.

- So as I knew that Korean Sonatas (the one they make for themselves) are fitted with electric folding mirrors from the factory ,I tried to find the actuators

Online ,and after spending monthes of searching korean websites ,I found one which sells second hand actuaros for about - If I remember correctly - 50 bucks.

(They actually sell the whole mirror too second hand of course , (for those live in US and their car didn't fit with folding mirrors )) this doesn't cost much either.

(there was another website which sells the new ones ,it was it bit pricy I think it was 250 or 300 for both left and right .)


- I wanted every thing to be stock , so I found the OEM door handle with Folding Switch on it .that was 60-70 bucks I guess. or you can put a regular switch

somewhere or just connect it to ACC so when you turn the key on the mirrors open and when turn car off they fold ,in this case you don't have much control over

the folding mirrors compared with switch fitted case.like if you park you car and somebody park very close to you when turn your car on the mirrors gonna open

and hit the car beside you . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

- and I needed a Folding unit to put between the switch and mirrors .this unit actually take the single signal from the button and convert it to constat current and

give it to the actuator to fold .and overchange it if you press button again to open the mirrors .(just like the ones on the azera) this costs 20 bucks.
(this one has a story behind it )
because this unit came with no installation manual I didn't know how to do the wiring ,so I gave it to a shop to find the wires on the socket .meanwhile I found the wiring diagram on the internet (again in Korean - but you could almost understand whats what) so after a week I called the shop and they said they tried everything but they couldn't figure out the wires .so I took it back since I got the diagram and connect it ,it didn't work ,apparently the idiot in the shop took all component on the unit apart and fried the circuit board ,so it was useless afterall .
since I already did all the wiring for the car and change the handle and mirror actuator I tried to figuer something out and make something that does what this unit does ,so after a week searching on the internet and thinking I made something myself with 5 Relays and 2 Diods that did the same thing .boy that was alot of workkkkkkkkk.the challenge was to make it small so it can fit in the door panel. so you need 3 items to do this :

1 - Electric Actuators (For Us sonatas the whole mirror)

I said ok .. i will bring you morons some instructions. But they also said that even after installing they could not work because of interferences and I should go to Hyundai for a modification in the car computer.

Any opinions on this?

The minute the installer told you they couldn't do it without instructions should have been the first clue that they have NO BUSINESS touching your car (or anyone else's). There is no modification needed to the car's computer (which the dealers are unable to do anyway) to make the mirrors work. They simply need power, ground and a switch. You will, however, need either the Korean driver's door panel (see arash's post above) or some other sort of switch (you could install it in one of the dummy panels to the left of the steering wheel) to operate the mirrors.

If you're not comfortable doing all the wiring yourself, try finding a REAL installer that understands the basics of automotive wiring. They should have no problem doing this as it's a relatively simple modification. Good luck with your installation.

wow ."modification in the car computer" ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) that's new .these guys in the shops really running out of excuses.

If they just could admit it and say "sorry, we haven't done this kind of work and we Don't know how it's done ,take it somewhere else" life woud be much easier

for us.

you don' need to do any modification to car computer at all .

you need to :

1 - mount the mirrors .

2 - these mirrors have 2 more wires which is for the electric actuators. you have to take those 2 wires from the passenger door panel and bring it to the driver side

(if you want to mount the switch on the door panel) otherwise bring the wires anywhere you want to put the switch .it took me 12 hours to run the wire ,because I

wanted to run it through that canal between the door and the body ,the one that factory has run the wire .it was really hard.I didn't want any wires visible.

3 - then you have to take those 2 wires from the driver side mirror and connect it to the wires from the passenger side . if you give them 12 + and a ground you

see they fold and change the polarity and they unfold.

4 - now you can do several things :

1 -you can get a factory switch which you will need that Folding unit too.

2 - you can get a *normal push button switch which you will need the Folding unit again .

3 - you can connect the wires to ACC wire ,so when you turn the keys on they unfold and when you turn the car off the mirrors

will fold.

{you can make something like mine instead of that Folding unit ,in which you will need 5 Relays and 2 diods and a board and alittle soldering}

*Normal push button ,that send a signal like the one on OEM door handle :

5 - then you need a 12 + from battery and a ground .(in case of Folding unit )

then you just have to connect the wires and you're done .

in case of hand made folding unit .you have to connect 5 wires :

2 from the mirrors (electric actuators)

1 from the switch ,(which is a Ground) .the switch send a single negative signal to the folding unit to activate the ralays.

1 12+ battery ,which I took from the trunk release button .

1 Ground which I took from the mirror adjasting switch.

and you're Done. Connect the Battery ,and Enjoy.


It took me alot of time and effort to figure this out .

But ,hey that's me ,I like working on my car .you gonna enjoy more when it's done by yourself . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/57.gif)

where did you guys find used parts? and how did you run the wires from door to the inside of the car? does that rubber tube in between have enough room? and isn't there a plastic connector at the end of it - inside of the car? do you need to modify the connector to run more wires?

This seems like a lot of work for a little reward. I cant see these being useful in my neck of the woods but they do look cooler when the car is parked. Good job.

yeah, it would definitely be of more use in big cities (NY, Boston, Chicago, etc - at least here in the 'States, and there are many cities around the world).. as blongen has mentioned, wouldnt be much use to someone like me who lives and works NOT in a big city, and parking is not at such a premium.. but for others, they are useful, and they are a cool feature either way!

Those covers are from Korea. A friend of mine ship to me.

New mirror was $75 each. It has own LED side repeater. I got used mirror with new cover. Used mirror was not have side repeater.

For turn signals ,you need to run couple of wire from the Turn signal on the fender (if available) and pass it from inside the fender to the door ,and then pass it through the door panel and the door it self to the inside of the door panel and to the mirror.
if your car doesn't have a turn signal on the fender I guess you need to take it from the headlights .
It's not hard at all ,it might take half an hour .

no drilling . I just stick the wire with electric tape to the door and put the door panel over it .
I used that rubber booth for electric mirror wires ,because you need too take two wires from mirror to the inside of the car . but for this just pass the wire that comes from the turn signal in between the door panel and door metal body .I take picture for you today .
