Haggle For New I20? Options

I am intending to buy a new i20 using the scrappage scheme.
As small Hyundai's appear to be popular at the moment and dealers have waiting lists do you think it is worth trying to get something off the list price?

I struggled to find a dealer who'd sell me a red one (no additional cost), & he seamed reluctent to sell it, so I be amazed if they gave you anything else. They gave me £2400 of the list price. Being a new model & Hyundai, if you were buying new without scrappage, I don't think they'd give you much off the list price, if any. To be fair it only seems that Hyundai & Kia are genuinely giving the £2000 off. I did read on another forum that someone managed to haggle a full tank of petrol on a Kia. Trying to haggle may get the dealers back up & he may be even more reluctent to sell, may be worth getting someone else to go in first to try! I'd be very interested to know how you get on, good luck.

Hi, Yes it's well worth a try I haggled and got £500 off the price plus they threw in free glasscoat and side mouldings. Every little helps!!!

I assume that's a non-scrappage purchase?

Yes, sorry I did mean to add that it was a part-exchange deal but not the scrappage kind. Good deal though!

Hi, I also managed £2,400 off with the scrappage scheme, although I have to say they offered it rather than me haggling it out of them. I got the impression this really is the current book price, as none of the cut price guys are offering i20's at the moment there wasn't much to use as a lever for any more.

No room for haggling on the scrappage scheme guys, we tried a couple of dealers in yorkshire.

However we got £3350 for our 15 year old Micra against an I20 CRDi Style. I guess the higher the price of the new car, the more they will give you against it.

We were very happy with the deal we got. And that was St Enoch's Hyundai in Bradford.

putting my scorpio up for scrappage I got £2900 against my i20 but they did say because of the red tape attached to the scrappage scheme there was no room to manouver but because I also bought a second hand car (kia picanto) for the wife at the same time they gave me just over £500 off of that and threw in a set of mats for the i20

I ordered my i20 last weekend (Bognor Hyundai), wouldnt give me anything. I got caught by the recent price increase, nothing doing there, no free mats, 2 gallons in the tanks as standard and wouldnt put 1 extra litre in. All I got was the usual sob story about how little they make on the cars etc etc, I was almost in tears at how hard up they are. I half expected the salesman to go on to how he was struggling to feed and clothes his kids. Probably be a whole diffrent story when the scrappage scheme ends.

As I said above, they say they are tied by red tape due to the scrappage scheme, I think there is something in this as I also asked at my Ford, Mazda,(same people) Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Kia & Hyundai (last 3 the same dealer but at different locations)
and all were saying the same, and the only reason I got free mats and money off of the wifes car was because I was buying 2 cars from the same place.

i've written before on here somewhere about this when i ordered my i20 im trading my car in not scraping and the car i'm trading a car i bought in febuary 2008 and paid £7000 so i was after as much money as possible they have given me £4200 as long as they deliver by the 1st week in october (god knows what happens if it doesn't happen i surpose i will be arguing the toss) but hyundai are running an offer where they give you an extra £500 on you're part exchange but the car has to be registered by the end of september my dealer sys they will force the issue with hyundai as under normal circumstances it would be delivered from the factory to the dealer in under 6 weeks but if they don't get it the dealer will give me £300.
the woman at the dealership who sorted my order did tell me theres no comision for them on scrapage and the price you see is all you'll get.
did any one read the thread in the i10 forum All Orders Fulfilled In September? i hope this means the same for i20 deliverys and isn't to the detriment of i20's ie: the i10's our best ever selling new car lets only make that in india and forget everything else.

I think you'll find that the thread was started last year, so it's September 2008 they're referring to.

i ordered a hyundai i20 hatchback1.2 classic 3 door in sparkle blue from arnold clark glasgow yesterday - basic price £8675 - manufacturer discount £255 - met paint £355 - road fund license £120.00 - first reg fee £55 - total price £8950 - less government scrappage contribution £1000 - less manufacturer scrappage contribution £1000 - total payable by me £6950 - i tried to prise out a full tank of fuel and genuine mats - absolutely no way - salesman did offer cheap arnold clark mats for free - salesman also showed me his inventory sheet which revealed that the dealership only earned £400 on my transaction under the current scrappage scheme
