I'm looking at buying an 08 Canadian Santa fe.

the GLS AWD has the leather and sunroof but 16 inch wheels

The limited added 18 inchers, 6 CD changer and climate control.

I've read 'expert' review that say the 18s are a harsher ride.

Any feed back would be appreciated, I've never owned a Hyundai before and this forum has been a wealth of info.

thanks,

Lower profile wheels will be a harsher ride, but not that bad. Otherwise the vehicle would be to hard to sell. Just try them both out, they should be able to let you test drive them both. If you find the ride too harsh then go witht he 16", you could always through that into the deal, switch the 18" for the 16" Should save you a bit of cash as well. But I think you'll find the 18" not that bad of a ride.

On the US model, there is only a very small difference in ride quality. One would only notice it if you drove both vehicles back to back. One other difference is that the 18s feel a bit more responsive and sporty.

One tip: Do NOT overinflate your 18 inch tires. Keep to the recommended COLD tire pressure.
When I had mine rotated they drove noticeably harsher and bouncier. Found out that the shop had pumped them up to 38 psi cold.

18's are a wonderful ride. You also get Homelink mirror, power passenger seat (front) and some extra shiny chrome bits on the door handles and front grill.

I think you will be happier with the upgrade.

In the States, they call it the Limited. The 18 inch wheels will give you a much more controlled ride and they look better too.

I have owned my limited for almost two years and inflate the tires 4psi over recommended. No problem what so ever. Excellent gas mileage, great ride and fantastic control.

Go for it. It will also improve your trade in value. You will have no loss with this upgrade. It's a win, win situation, plus the other added ingredients will make your driving pleasure even greater.

Speaking from experience,

David <><

In Canada we chose the GLS 3.3 AWD with leather and sunroof. We found the price jump to Limited was too much, even on a lease, and now that I am shopping snow tires I am glad we didn't go that route. But we do see a lot of Limiteds on the road here in Ottawa.

Our Santa Fe turns a year old this month, and we love it. We've owned 7 Nissans and 2 Hondas over the past 20 years, and the Santa Fe seems better-built than all of them. Last summer we pulled a camper over 6,000km and didn't use a drop of oil. Now with 20k on the clock we still haven't had a single problem or warranty claim, and our "Fay" is as quiet and solid as a bank vault. I highly recommend it to others. Good luck!
