Hi all,

I have a 2006 Sonata and it started quivering between 40 - 45mph. Does not always occur. I either have to ease off or step on the gas to remedy this. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times and the head mechanic took it for the weekend to test, but did not occur for him. Many months have passed and it now happens between 45 - 50mph. It has also stalled once sitting at a light and ac on max., but restarted with no warning lights. Yesterday after driving for 20 mins the ABS and ESC OFF warning lights came on. After restarting they did not illuminate again. Not sure if it is related though. The dealer has told me to keep driving it until the check engine light comes on. Has this happened to anyone else? The best way to describe the feeling is, it feels like going in and out of overdrive. Would be greatful for any input.

Thanks,
The quivering car

Is the quivering engine/tansmission related, or suspension?

If you pop into neutral as it's happening, does the problem go away?

I have not tried putting in neutral. I would say it is not suspension but transmission/computer related. It feels like turbulance in an airplane.

This is addressing the 45-50mph vibration only:

Have you had any tire work done? If so, due to the wheels, they need to be balanced with a good machine.

Sometimes bubbles develop on the tires, and they can mimic all sorts of suspension and engine transmission problems.

No tire work has been done. This quiver does not always happen and it can go days without feeling it. Also, not always the same road, time and weather conditions.

The same lights came on in my car the other day, but shut off after restart. i have noticed my car shakes like you descripe sometimes in park, but i've never felt it while driving. I just figured the lights were a glitch. Hope you figure out the problem, and if you do please post.

sounds like sometimes the car has shifted into the 5th gear, but is cranking a little bit slow... usually if you step on the gas or the brake to get to a different speed, it goes away.. i have noticed that once or twice with my car (and with my previous car)... its almost like its the one speed & gear level that the car doesnt like to really be in... like its not sure if it should shift to 4th or keep it in 5th....

of course, this doesnt say anything about the lights.. i have not had that happen....

i could be WAY off.. been known to happen

I agree. It sounds like the transmission is in too high of a gear for its speed. What is the RPM when the noice occurs? If the RPM is running at approximately 1200, the engine may be working too hard to maintain this speed, especially on an incline.

The stalling with A/C has happened to me and others (actually to me it happened at a stop light when I SHUT the A/C off). The ABS/ESC OFF has happened to several of us here, me included. Do a search, there is suppose to be a fix for it.

Geauga,

I have a similar issue with my 2006 V6. I've attributed my issue to the torque converter lock-up shudder. After my car has shifted into 5th gear (41mph) under light acceleration, I get the shudder. It's much worse with the A/C on. This happens about 25% of the time, but I have noticed the more miles I've put on my car the worse it gets. I'm hoping my Transmission will crap out on me before the 100,000 miles is up. I've taken this issue to the dealership a couple of times and they're of NO HELP! The impression I have of my dealer's service deparment is, if you can drive it then nothing's wrong. Anyway I'm looking into dealing with my issue on my own. I've taken a look at the suspension, motor mounts and sub-frame and everything look tightened down and ok. So, I'll be having the transmission flushed and I'm hoping this will take care of the issue. Good luck.

A Transmission Flush and this would help the problem?. I'm
only asking because this is a known issue of the Sonata, and for me
has dissipated over time.

Yes that 40-45 MPH wobble, I remember it well as it
was complaint # 1, next to the lack of performance of the 5 spd A/T. Since you
have the 2006 V 6, did you get the A/T PCM campaign done. I'm sure
some Sonatas have fell through the cracks on 'Service Programs".

This makes sense. My Mustang had a shudder under light acceleration. A TSB was found stating to drop the pan and change the filter. This solved the problem.

Scotty,

What happens if you accelerate a little harder after it shifts into 4th, and force it to shift at say 45-48mph? Have you already tried that?

Since I'm a nice guy, I did some search and found it. It may not at all be the same issue, but still, this was a thread by HDSIT from Denmark:

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/index.php?sh...c=6559&hl=hdsit

"bumping from the tyres mostly from 65-70 km/h and forward." -- He went thru a LOT of visit to his dealer who tried just about ANYTHING. But as much as I remember he finally DID find the culprit (don't remember what) and fix it...

For whatever reason, as with many old threads, I can open only the FIRST PAGE, but not any further....

i think when doing a search and you click on page 1 of a thread, you have to go back to the original search page and click the link for the thread, not the page number...

I have found many Page 2's when doing a Search with no Posted Info.

But at least I am doing a Search, and thank Member #1 for

putting the search feature on the Forum. Not all Forums have them!

I am still at a loss.... Many old threads you open the thread, but when clicking on "page 2" or using the arrow, all you get is (as in this case) see below....

Sometimes you have to go back to the actual search results page and click page two or whatever page from there. I don't know why.
